But it all depends on what his definition of 'fix her up' means.
For many people it's do enough stuff to pass inspection and drive around the block. Not everyone has a full blown restoration in mind.

I haven't done the swap, but have been considering either a 5 speed manual or AOD swap. But I've been talking to a transmission rebuilder and he says he doesn't even want to mess with AODs anymore. Not strong enough (we weren't even talking high hp/tq) and not a real 4th overdrive...
Oh, and then I ran into CWalker on the way to the van. He said he thought about buying the heads when the guy told him $100.
But, he seemed happy with a transmission and rear gear set he bought from someone else. Something about he had some space in his garage to fill and the heads weren't big...
Went to a swapmeet today. Wasn't there half an hour and spotted a couple cleveland cylinder heads. The one I could see was open chamber, but you have to look anyway, right? Sure enough it's an open chamber 4v D3 head. Spun the other one around and it's also a 4v...closed chamber. D1AE GA. Look...
Looks like a ballast resistor with a thermal sensor/switch (much like the ones on my dryer and refridgerator). Maybe it cuts current once the engine is warm?
I was just thinking that the end tip being a separate piece it may have been used on something else. Lots of cars and trucks from Ford/Lincoln/Mercury around that time. They could use something like that for 10 years.
