  1. This is what I found out this fall why you can't use 71-72 rear seats in a 73 Mustangs. This applies to coupes, but I imagine the convertibles and fastbacks have the same issues. The reason being that there is a difference is Ford changed the seatbelts in 73. I don't know if this was a government mandated thing but 71-72 seat belts are different than 73's. So how do the seat belts effect the rear seats? The seat belts on the rear of a 71-72 are a non retractable type of set up and the 73's have a retractable type.   3. For what it's worth: my very early 72 vert (December 7th,1971) doesn't have retractable seat belts.

  6. My April '72 fastback had factory retractable rears...before I pitched them in favour of a three-point retractable set-up.
