  3. Looks great!!!! That’s how it should of looked when you picked it up from the painter. A job is not done until it has been wet sanded, buffed, and hand glazed. That gentleman did a great job! It’s all downhill from here! Congrats .

  5. Copy - I missed what you were testing... I thought you were testing to see if the Phosphoric acid weakened the welds, I missed the fact you were testing how effective it was at rust removal inside the lap joint. Now I get it - facepalming now.

  6. Today work started on the RH cowl. Starting by removing the thing on top that probably has a name but I have no clue what it is: It looked kinda OK underneath: I decided to try a new type of spotweld drill today. It makes bigger holes but less mess: It worked very well: The part under the windshield has some kind of sealant underneath that's rather sticky. I used these to loosen things up. Especially the pointy one was very helpful as it's easy to get in: And then, surprise, surprise, a load of rust: You can't see it very well in the picture but there are a few holes, especially undrneath the window it's bad. As I'm replacing the original heater with a modern one that doesn't use outside air, I'm going to put in a patch without the hole. To be continued...

  7. First, sorry for your loss but it is special that you have such regard for your friend after all these years. Second...welcome from MO! Last.....listen to the folks here. Restoring a car is painstaking and, at times, frustrating. Set your expectations for what you want it to be when you are done. My restoration started 26 yrs ago and languished for a good portion of it. I hope u can keep your car inside or at least under a roof with concrete or a vapor barrier underneath it. Ask questions here. It looks like some members are sorta close by. Go to some local car shows and find similar cars. Strike up a conversation with those owners. Look for a local or regional Mustang or Ford club. In a year or two you will have a few local folks. I have a few around me that are on this forum. More pics are always welcome and there are no stupid questions (only arrogant answers)

  8. Regarding PAW, I'm not sure exactly why they closed. Owner Keith Harvey had a fledgling mail order business going when he first decided to have his own machine shop. Good friend, Lauren Arana and I, were the first two machinists hired there. Lauren and I owned A&A Machine for a handfull of years prior to our lease being closed, and hearing that Keith Harvey was looking for automotive machinists. I left Paw to pursue other interests. Lauren, aka "The Baron" ( the boring bar baron ) soldiered on there for years before going on to work for Ed Pink's Racing Engines. All of the guys who worked there were memorable. Imagine working with names like "Frog', "Pinner", "Wigger", "Baron", "Spike", "Big Brian", "Bubba", "Pops", etc. Anyway, the business skyrocketed and production increased to a frantic level. Unfortunately, from my point of view, so was quality. Nonetheless, after I left, they continued and prospered and moved to a huge building, that Keith bought, and housed the warehousing and large machine shop under one roof. PAW also had a couple of satellite retail parts stores around the Valley. I do remember that Keith sold the huge building just months before the 2008 market crash, I'm sure he made a killing, and the new owner probably kicked himself on his timing. About this time, PAW struck a deal to sponsor Shirley Muldowney. The first big building had a showroom with many of Keith's car collection, as well as Kenny Bernstein's, Shirley's, and one other top fueler hanging from the ceiling. Keith moved Paw down the street eastward, where , in another building, they were until they closed some years later. The story I heard, is that Keith entered into an ugly divorce ( is there any other kind?), and the divorce was at the core of liquidating the business. Other than that rumor, I don't know for sure. As fate would have it, fast forward years later, and I was the Engine Assembler at Valley Head Service, two blocks away from that original location where I first worked for Harvey on Business Center Drive. Below are photos of Baron and Me in front of our shop, A&A Machine, along with some early photos of he and I. We've been friends before, since, and still. Diggin' those sideburns huh?

  11. Well I splurged on a pair of these because one of the guys involved lives very near to me. And because out of 3 cars in the family they all have issues or cracks on these. Every time I find someone who has some they are usually broken and they still want a lot of $$ for them. These are also beefed up on one edge to make them stronger, and the plastic is not 50 years old. My first impression is how beefy they are. The texture is spot on and very crisp. I held one up to an old one in my car and it looks like it will be a perfect fit. Unfortunately I won't be installing them until I decide which car is getting restored first. I will post a few pics so you can see them. Feel free to ask me any questions about them, I will try to answer the best I can.
