  1. You have quite a set up. Is it all stock(restored) or resto-mod to this point? See my 72 convertible profile, up to 14 pages since 11/15/12, ellicits a lot w/modifications from on stick roll control, beefed up QA1 front coil over shocks set at max level stiffness(18), rear anti sway bars, rear air shocks, front power disc brakes and EFI unit from Summit Racing, inner locking gas cap, magnum 500's wheels, 7" on front, 8" available on rear, as well now Year One has magnum 500's for 71-73's @ 18".......seems the more you put into it, for your preference like ie 6-way power driver seat...the more you want to modify it, in comfort, performance.....handling....Also w/tours, got one clip/map of the Panamericana tour, a 49 day race from Alaska to Southern end of S. America, though either two years ago or last year was a $6,000 ticket to enter. Mike
  2. ::welcome::When you say it need a complete make over, per se, do you have the manuals, a good hook up with the closest salvage yard that still as a couple big body mustangs laying around, a good rapport and knowledge with e-bay, all those after market parts companies as Year one, Mustangs unlimited, Ohio Mustang, Mt Laurel Mustang,...CJ Pony, Virginia Mustang, Johns Mustang, Hemming Motor News support.....? I was not as lucky to have this website when I started restoring my 72 Q code convertible, back in 2003. Also AACA out of Hershey and MCA? (antique and mustang clubs can save you a lot of time and money)MCA as AACA natl HQ I believe is in Ft Walton Beach, FL.But, finally, it has been ressurected as a resto-mod (Antique) however throughout all this time w/a lot of car parks attended around here, "ground zero, per se" Only one big car show, AACA sanctioned here in Latrobe, PA 2012, came in second place in modified class. See my mustang between on 72 mustangs and msc images. Mike
  3. ::welcome: Utilizing a rotisserie sure beats working on it while still sitting on floor of a garage! My delay was a matter of putting the buggy before the horse as otiginally I only wanted a new top but after being installed, changed my mind and stripped the body, inside out. W/rebuilding inner wheel wells when realized as with every entire inch of body that was basically covered over with that black tar/cement, tough to work with wheel wells w/welding torch w/out melting the "new top". Of course, basically biggest mistake being that it was virtually given away and my misconception, well worth it as I could "virtually" modify it anyway I want, but a lot of parts were "virtually" almost extinct to locate. 2003, by 2011, in November Hemmings Motor News had front page article on 71-73 models I feel wrote overly optimistic on reviving them. See my profile, you will understand what I mean. Mike ::welcome: Utilizing a rotisserie sure beats working on it while still sitting on floor of a garage! One thing, I am not that computer savvy and just got msg, "error 503/varnished server, whatever that means", but here goes again....Mike
  4. Mike, Thought I posted reply but did not go to bottom of page tp post so in the case, check my under cpy cat if I would do it over, I would either get 71 grande, drop v6 in it w/5 speed, power front discs, heavy suspension w/rear roll bar too, a must A/Cw/mod stereo...navigation system, better a convertible add roll bar, get mbrshp w/AACA and MCA, if you arn't a good mechani , get one, go to the auctions and get one in decent shape/moderate price for your resto-mod purpose. On my profile or msc images, find map of N & S America, Panamericana Race, a 49 day race, ticket not cheap but aq once in a life time event "$6,000 last year", also throw in a bi-turbo of course a Holley EFI and 18" wheels if possible a Goodrich G-..tire or as the late Carroll Shelby recommends best ius the current Firestone 500's, Magnum 500 wheelw now available through Year One Mustang parts64-73 models). Hope you have za lot of back pay coming, will work good along for operating capitol as I hear when ets service, can go to school ie auto mechanics to fix your ride up for free, w/possibly 2 years unemployment w/out even periodically going out look for work, let GI Bill take catre of the college bill. Where you go back to your VA Rep can coordinate it all. Good Luck. Also on my line note headache if you acquire too cheaply as I did. Mike
  5. "Preciuos color" mine is mustang "1995" Special White, just a couple tones lighter!
  6. Your paint job with epoxy finish; who can I go through that can coordinate such an effort on my 72 mustang, gone through 2 paint jobs since 2003/ feel like good old boys kind of job/only had vehicle out only a couple days since last paint job 2010 and paint falling off, cracks in seams....need find someone in my area Westmoreland County near mustang.com ground zero, these under the table jobs for @ 5K not right and can not find reasonable painter that warrants work w/receipt attached to work, reasonable, priced? 5K sounds unreasonably high but this, "we want cash for job", not right but do not want to deal this way anymore. (Latrobe/Greensburg, PA area) Y
  7. Apparently I do not understand description/purpose/function of thread? can not get onto ez gallery nor own profile/file so this is a different kind of "lock out"::help::..............stumbled into file but still not option through front door after getting on line(still no title to click onto)
  8. There is a # to tell you what kind of tranny and as I have always heard when selling vehicles, the write that all numbers match. A code number from your door should tell you what kind of tranny you have but beyond this and getting a code book or like year one inc where they sell parts for your mustang in the back of catalog they ellicit these codes per each year and model that offer as possible opyions, aside that, marti report information maybe cj pony inc, musyang parts can help through there customer service. You can get phone #'s from for instance ohio mustang which advertise on this website. good luck! Hope this can help as when my mustang was repainted and side door decal with these information i did not write down and they sanded the decal down. Might be something found via your vin # as if you have size engine comes with certain tranny but if it was replaced, i would research who you bought it from but vin #'s those days are shorter and very limited to going back to original owner but tells where what auto port it was sent from to what entry dealer's address where the mfg ie detroit, dearborn, el pasa auto builder for your model should be able to better direct where it, the state, city, dealer, hopefully.
  9. Question: is bass boat as any leisure vehicle still subject to luxury tax yearly in Florida? Was the case back in the 90's. Thought i read florida, my mistake Question: is bass boat as any leisure vehicle still subject to luxury tax yearly in Florida? Was the case back in the 90's.
  10. When you find the least, a kit that you can prefabricate as the dash apart if it isn't apart is something I will never do again. I have the kind of door inserts that wood grain and would be a nice touch there, on console as well around speedo and tach would be super!!!! Good luck. Maybe Hemmings motor new might help. If you have a subscription, the first inquiry I believe is free but it's not that expensive to advertise through them. Wood grain item you are talking about is not secluded to 71-73's as you recall some Shelby models. Even if you can trace out the area, I know Hemmings classifieds or subscribers would know where you can get the material then at the most, can have it installed by an interior man.
  11. If it wasn't a good deal, he reimburses you, sound like the best because in like Columbus, OH has a spring swap like toward Hershey, PA they are still around and then again, OHio Mustang may have one back in salvage in good shape They specialize in housing 71-71 mustangs on their grounds. Can't think of place around Blue Ridge Mountain, VA has a lot of components for 71-73 but upon finding one, will ask for a money order, no check or credit of which he will want in advance. I myself would take some wood cement use it w/braces then repaint. Something you might be aware as a preventative matter the clock. Draws a lot of power, Hemmings motor news has classified of people who convert them to quartz, ie tachometer revisions, fixing old radios.....
  12. I found the after market 15'sX 7's are cheaply assembled and chromed. Got 15'X 8's(rather newer addition, on the back right now, will see how they turn out in months to come from running on them and sitting in garage for the winter. Year one has some 18 and believe 19's that if not by same manufacturer might be a better bet so running on your stang. Just keep the 15X7's around for car shows, if you are running closer to stock. If and when you get them repaired, watch for the chrome but in anycase it might be cheaper in all these cases if that goes too, to just get another set as too expensive to send them to something like Pauls Chroming, ie SW PA or....do not know of cheaper places for rechroming, although not now as the issue, maybe checking with the those shops or original manufacturers about this. I know, for instance with a high tech EFI unit I installed by Holley, only Holley could assist when I ran into problems with it....
  13. I would send them back. Noticed cheap job chroming them as this garage left my stang out in the weather as garage owner that was to do some work come down with heart problems, no telling when he'd get to it, no room in his shop to take up for the work the rest were turning over. the No time at all, chrome just fell off and rusted up under neath within just weeks thereafter. There was no recourse as I could see with those circumstances. When you get the exchange hope you put some good finish's on it, always garage kept, even climate control and kept dry.
  14. I have the same identical problem. A very tight suspension, shook everything loose but seems that there is a couple screws inside behind the mirror that I need to get into that might just tighten that down. Just won't use it anymore. With a convertible, won't use it anyways, just an ornament. After market, such a small mirror in the sports unit anyways and then also, cheap mirror, for some reason even never used, the finish on the glass, is all scratched up.
  15. ::welcome:: 1st indoctrination I had when I acquired, you could say a sibling to yours was researching everything about your vehicle. Getting a couple illustration books on components of each year's mustang, either on disc or books, volume of that year, and all the catalogs of all the different mustang parts companies available, (should be free or with purchase of a part that you can not get through salvage) ie Ohio mustang, cj pony parts, Mt laurel mustang, Johns mustang, mustangs unlimited, of course all the mustang parts companies found on this website. You will find a lot of precious information from Hemmings magazines from their main one, to classic and muscle magazine as you will find a good source of companies that can either restore components from radio, conversions into quartz ie tachometer.....I cannot put my finger on the "Hemmings" cataloque that covers the most optimistic article about 71-73 mustangs. You will find out early in the game that as all the different model per each of the 71-73 years, "no one model fender will fit some other model in that year as my 72 mustang has different fenders than the Mach I,.....If you really want to see a project mustang from every aspect of body to paint job and electrical side of it will be enterred on my profile in the near future. Upon sanding down every inch of the body and chassis, I found as you will see a nightmare of @ 6 pages of body work alone you can center on quicker if you go straight to msc images. As somewhere sooner or later in a short period or further up the road, you may decide to take the step from original restoration to modification. In my case, I knew what I wanted right away and saved a lot of time bypassing stock and going straight to resto-mod.Although it @ 7 years and counting to finally enter into a car show under "Modified" Category @ our local but largest AACA sanctioned car show, got 2nd place. All of the facts on what it seems to me the restoration you are going to go through, see my profile, from performance, handling, rebuilding the body and the electrical story to come. ...... Happy New Years from cpy cat @ ground zero.
  16. ::welcome::72 Mach owner, Canada from "ground zero" (7173mustangs.com)& Happy New Year to you. PS A great car show here, ground zero, in September, if you are ever in this neck of the woods. ::welcome::from ground zero of 7173mustangs.com. If you are ever down in this end of the woods, we have a "great" antique car show, early Sept. (sponsored by AACA) however come warmer weather throughout to autmn we have car parks at our Arby's parking lot on Sundays and a significantly larger (covering antique population of Westmoreland and Allegheny County @ Norwin Hills Shopping Center, Irwin, PA, on Saturdays after 5PM. (also on Rt 30) ::welcome::from ground zero of 7173mustangs.com. If you are ever down in this end of the woods, we have a "great" antique car show, early Sept. (also on Rt 30) Attempt to submit pics seem to be a failure, however see my profile, "cpy cat". Incidentally, all my "authentic pics", descript for origin of user name "cpy cat" comes from a General Motors vehicle said to have looked like a mustang, the same as when 76 Toyota Celica "Liftback" as advertised and pic on my file, was advertised as a possible "mustang" which for the time it was shown without title was unidentified by all viewers (no one came forward to ID it otherwise) from almost entire time I have been registered w/mustangs.com. . :huh:Where is you Florida Home? I spent all over suncoast in 1983 then from 1984 to 2003 living in Volusia County(84-89 home in Edgewater) then moved beachside New Smyra for the rest of my years in Florida.
  17. :D:D:D:D "Thats all folks"! A little studder there. I can just imagine myself on those back roads between Jennerstown and Somerset, PA on how very dear freinds have bitten the dust as those "Coal Trucks" come barreling over the hills and curves, late at night and there is no where to go to get out of their way when they drift over into your lane(in those narrow two lane roads as route 30) My scary scene is in "Jeepers Creepers" II when that truck (looks like a locamotive) was pushing those kids off the road!
  18. I had odor however found leaks minute but still from transmission, gas tank, and oil pan(leak). It had been with my car since I purchased it, oil pan leak might have been from pushing the car on a 1/4 mile run 57mph in 1st gear @ 7,200 rpm's. Engine is set up with hot peened solid lifters @ 9.5 compression although oilers were opened up in rebuild, ports bored out but the MSD rev limiter should have shut the engine down @ 6,500 rpm's. (for problem out of engine), pin hole in gas tank is enough to create fumes however not really noticeable by the layman. Looking at the drippings was more apparent from the transmission, harder to determine by looking at the puddle on the floor if it is only run as mine a total of 2,200 miles within period of 2003, then engine rebuild and w/in 500 miles the break in oil was changed(in 2010). It's all a combination of things to look at. Although might cost a pretty penny w/assessments from different mechanics that can look into it and pin point problems a lot quicker, even if you had your own lift.
  19. PS Know how the Dodge HO's is fun to drive, fast, & economical as I had one of the 1st Dodge Daytona Shelby Z "Fully Loaded" as it came out at Daytona Beach Dodge Dealership accross from the speedway in "87"(frt wheel drive w/gatorback radials, 5 on the floor, power seat(moveable as well pump up, 4 wheel disc, indep suspension that all in all 0-60 in 7.9 seconds best it did for me w/out getting caught by the smokies while on the move on I-95 not far from Daytona wa 132 mph, from an intercooled four cylinder, as well lockable glass T-tops specially installed from Car Care. Was both inputs recieved? Apparently initial reply, seems like did not go through. Thanks for the "welcome aboard". In a shorter version, my story is recorded in the AACA coffee book published 2011(if you are a mbr of AACA) If not, always liked 71-73 mustangs as time of myn highscgool alumni but never rode in one, a canary yellow Mach 1 while stationed in Air Force, Duluth IAP(Air Base),duluth, MN "76-78". My father fronted me for a new vette in 76 as got a dealer cost price from Wiesbaden Air Base BX (prior assignment).
  20. Very nice! Has potential. When I rebuilt my Cleveland, had the 2/4 Barrel Cleveland Heads. See my profile(cpy cat). It is "almost" completed to my liking. If I were to acquire another mustang, I would stay with 72 convertible but get the Sprint model, "loaded" w/A/C, 6 cylinder upgraded w/EFI & intercooled by-turbo, & of course - "electric windows"(one option if you don't have from factory, found cannot add onto original doors and frame(by my guys inthe electrical shop) don't know if possible w/prefab door and frame if can negotiate wiring plate in dash. W/Hurst 4=spd(wide or close ratio or in fact going all the way(with limited slip 2.75 axle) onto a tremac manual six, "could not be better"!
  21. I know where you are coming from. When I bought my 72 comvertible, could tell it needed a lot of work and depending on how bad you wanted it, hope original price tag was not too high because no matter what you paid as I almost bought a 72 convertible w/302/AT/mid mileage @ Daytona Beach Car how for 20K in 2000. But I wanted to do it myself w/351/4-Hurst/convertible found in 2003 but took a long time and money, see my profile.Sometimes the more sources you enlist to help you get the "hard to find" parts is best way all around, ie AACA, MCA just as belonging to this website. This 72Mustang was suppose to be equipped w/4.11 Detroit Locker & when I turned the wheels they spun together a little over 4 times but by driving found @ 65 mph was spinning 2700 rpm's which is definitely "not" but rather 3.5. Also said to have toploader out of a 429 CJ. Don't know. yet but as seller, car title in mom's name, said was a project car p/u from highschool shop teacher whom never found buy on upside, vin # matched engine and knowing I get what I pay for, knew needed to restore bottom to top w/only having sticker of 2,200 dollars "not a misprint" If I ever do it again, i'll take along club rep and p/u through an accredited auction! Just last month, as I wanted it modified anyways, p/u 2nd place category 17 at AACA sanctioned car show in Latrobe. cpy cat
