  1. I am cleaning my wiring harnesses and repairing them. Any opinions on factory type static tape versus braided wire wraps to redo the harnesses. I have located many sites that sell the original type static tape, but I don't really know which one is best. Some are sticky, some are not. Also, Summit sells the braided woven wire wraps. In pictures, they look like the original wraps that are on my Tailight harnesses that go from the tail-lights to the instrument panel. One product is braided cloth, the other polymer material. For the headlight harness, would you wrap them in static tape or use the braided wire wraps????
  2. Here are 2 pics of my 1972 Convertible cylinder area. 1st one is cylinder on passenger side, second is drivers side (I have the cylinder, just nothing to attach it to). I am missing the innermost bracket (would you call this a drop-down bracket?) and all the hardware for the drivers side, as you can see. Anyone knows where I can get the bracket and hardware????
  3. Regarding the trunk area. How did you paint inside the tail-light panel, body color or splatter paint?????: I duplicated the original, body paint first, then Spatter 1/2 way up and spatter over spray on the light housings. Thank you so much. Back in the day, they sure did a great job at the factory, lol!!!!!! They must have been sniffing some of the overspray! One more question, did you paint the tailight housings. My housings need to be painted or something.
  4. Do you know where to buy a 1972 Hood Latch Support Bracket? Mine is all dinged up and not repairable.
  5. Just got done using the Eastwood, very nice and quick drying. Thanx for the advice!
  6. the above link is a Great place for Details. I painted my truck first with the Body color, then used the Splatter paint just like they show in the pictures in teh above link, then I clear coated it with a matt finish clearcoat just for protection. Regarding the trunk area. How did you paint inside the tail-light panel, body color or splatter paint?????: I guess I wasn't clear in previous posts. The light grey with white specs is correct for 1971. http://www.mainemustang.com/mustang-info/1971-mustang-technical-data/1971-mustang-paint-colors-codes/1971mustangcolorcodes Perhaps I posted too much data, sorry for the confusion. Chuck What is original on the trunk inner tailight panel, splatter or body color????
  7. All of my fender bolts and other engine bolts are spray painted over engine black. I need to replace them while I have the engine out. What were they originally? I see silver colored (are they Zinc?) and Cadmium (gold color) for sale.
  8. Soda blasting CAN change the shiny finish on plastics that had a shiny look or finish. However, the great thing again is not having to utilize ANY elbow grease. The other issue with lacquer thinner and other "agents" is they can tend to smear the tars, gunk, dirt, etc. into the plastics. They may also tend to melt the plastic or cause a reaction with the plastics. On wiring harnesses it makes the coatings appear brand new. Soda blasting is my preferred way and VERY VERY easy...... Do you have your own soda machine! Do you recommend one or do you take your parts somewhere? Soda blasting CAN change the shiny finish on plastics that had a shiny look or finish. Any recommendations on brands? Could I do my engine bay with a soda blaster????
  9. What is the best way to clean the wire harnesses and wires back to original shape???? Mine are all "gunked up" and electrical tape is peeling.
  10. Love the quote from Gene Stallings. I went to High school with his daughter in Dallas. They lived next to my friends house, great family!
  11. Mine was in Scottsdale, Arizona in the 80's, the movie Alien. Pretty creepy on the big screen. When I grew up in Dallas, Texas, (early 80's), we had a Drive-Inn called The Gemini. They had dollar night on Mondays. My whole high school hung out and drank beer (drinking age was 18 then). Nobody watched the movie. The parking lot was filled with Mustangs and Camaro's. I had a 1970 Mustang (wish I still had it) We were more interested in meeting girls than watching the movie. Once we got busted for trying to sneak in by hiding in the back of my friends conversion van! Where do you live? I am near Hot Springs Village between Hot Springs and Benton.
  12. Thank you, what is the correct sheen, gloss black or satin??????
  13. Do you use rattle cans or a spray gun and compressor? What engine bay paint would you recommend????
  14. Standard, non-hi temp paints will work fine for both parts. Thanks!
  15. I am trying to remove the charcoal canister, I took off a screw from underneath it, but the thing will not budge. There is a plate in the wheel well with what looks like 3 rivets or flat head bolts. You cannot get a socket on it. Is this thing riveted on or something????
  16. Any suggestions on a good radiator paint??? Also, my water pump is rusted. Could use suggestions on how to repaint. I have a product thru KBS coatings. It is a aqua clean and rust blast. It etches the metal. Seems to work well. It says you can primer and topcoat after the cleaner and rust blast. Any suggestions on primer (does it need to be high temperature??). I have the proper Ford Blue, Duplicolor DE1606.
  17. Yeah - and DO NOT use Duplicolor 'Old Ford Blue.' You'll never hear the end of it [being the wrong color for a 351C]. rofl looks like the same color as my block. (too light) Looks great, what carb and manifold do you have???
  18. Getting ready to pull the ole 302. I have a nice engine crane and engine stand and will buy a load levelor Tuesday. How do I run chains to the engine and where do I attach. Sorry if this question seems elementary!
