  1. Welcome to the group. Great car. I know my German is much worse than your English. I was in Frankfurt last year for the Mold Show. Is your car a German T-5 or shipped over later from the U.S.? The sticker on the door should be like the one if pic if it is a T-5. picture not so good but states for Export and the DSO will be in the 90's. I have one of the Emblems for 71 - 73 T-5 cars. It went on the center dash if you did not have gages where it normally says Mustang.
  2. I have a 1950 Ford with rear window wiper and also rear window louvers, 69 Mustang was not first. They called them Venetian blinds. It was a Ford option have the book that lists it. This is only ones I have ever seen they are laying on the package tray Took them out and have not clipped them back in. I keep the wiper blade inside also. They also had a hydraulic bumper jack that I have never seen. Hum guess I have to do a reply to post pics. will do that. David
  3. Polishing has been my winter job. Like some have said there are videos on youtube and the net that show how to strip the anodizing before polish. The stripping process makes Hydrogen gas so do it outside and no open flames. If you have dents you can almost massage the dents out doesn't take much. If you have uneven surfaces you need to file them or use a stone to get that back even then start the sanding and polish. For a cheap buffer go to Harbor Freight for like $25.00 they have a two head one and also have the wheels. Keep your buffing pads in zip lock bags and do not use different compound
  4. When you go back together with the engine be sure you get the head gaskets on the right way. on a 289, 302 you can flip them end to end and it causes water flow issues. The car will not overheat usually but when you stop the engine it will percolate and blow water out. I have found this a couple times. You can actually knock the freeze plug out of the front of the cylinder head if it is on the car and feel if the gasket is right or not. Quick way to check it without pulling the head. Most think they have a blow head gasket when it is really backwards. Just follow the manuals and you will do
  5. Where in the southeast are you located? I am in N.C. in the mountains. David
  6. Hello, I have one with 3/4 vinyl top, $52.35. I ordered the car with every option that could come on a Mach 1 except the engine block heater I think. I has 27 factory installed options and 7 that are dealer items for a total of 34 options. I have posted the order form and dealer invoice before but have again for you to see the costs of everything. I had originally ordered a non Mustang color which I think was $125.00 but they could not match the rubber bumper and I did not want the chrome one so I changed to stock color. The car has sat in the barn and not washed or cleaned in 32 years. I
  7. I dare say most of you have never worked on or owned a Flathead Ford V-8 239 C.I. stock. They had a reputation of running hot but not a design problem just a mechanic problem unless you had a blown head gasket. People had the idea that if I put a colder thermostat in 165 deg. the car will run colder, NOT. The thermostat opens to allow the water to flow quickly and just stays open most of the time. This caused the water to circulate through the radiator too fast and did not cool so eventually it would overheat. If you ran the hot thermostats yes the water was hotter in the engine but it slowed
  8. I took to a friends shop that does restorations and he said it was the most rust free mustang he has seen. Not too many pics yet. I am still high on the adrenaline and I am 66. I am so happy there is just not rust it was kept in garage all it's life. David
  9. Working on a 72 vert and could use a better shifter for automatic can you send pics? Thanks, David
  10. Hello, Can we get some more pics of the hood looks pretty beat up on the right hand side in the middle. I am in Hendersonville N.C. so not too far away. I do have some 429 stuff but the hood would not be a good trade. I have I think a 1970 highway patrol engine and also a HD 429 that has a steel crank. The snout is larger dia. but can be cut down to CJ or SCJ. Also have a H.D. C6 that has cast iron tail shaft. I think I have the headers and all off the HP engine. I was looking for a 72 351 cj 4 bolt main standard bore also. Take some pics inside and out. Thanks, David
  11. Need Comments, Has anyone used one of the repo NASA hoods from Dynacorn? Do they fit or are they like most of the Taiwan metal hammer to fit and paint to match? Does anyone have an original Ford NASA hood for sale? I am in N.C. so closer to east would be great. All I find are eat up with rust. Doing a car that did not come with one and was going to paint both hoods at the same time so if I sell and someone is die hard original I would have the flat hood also. Thanks, David
  12. I could write a book on how not to do it. Turned out finding the hauler myself worked the best. All the brokers low ball the quote then cannot get a trucker to take the load. David
  13. Well yesterday was a huge day. I purchased a 73 vert on eBay on Dec. 17 I think and have been trying to get it here ever since. Had a dozen carriers say they had it and never pick it up. I even tried U-Ship and one took the load and did not pick up so when two weeks passed I went searching again. It made the trip from Reno to North Carolina without being in the rain. It is a California car that was taken to Reno for summer transportation and sat in garage for 20 years, still has California title. It looks like it is a 48,000 mile car with no rust even the tail light panel has only a couple
  14. Eddy, Ford knew that the space saver spares would be like gold one day and they knew we would be a car shows with the trunk open. It is to prevent someone lifting it at shows, lol. No I think it was part of the appearance protection package but do not know for sure. The appearance protection package was not available on the Mach 1. wheel lip moldings, rocker moldings, door edge guards, the little skinny door bump strip down the side and the black out panel between the tail lights. There was a small half size brochure that the dealer gave out that covered dealer options for the whole line

  16. The car has sat for 32 years in the barn so it needs to be gone over. It has not been washed inside or out in 32 years. I just got a tilt column today for a 73 convertible that I hope gets delivered tomorrow. It is a California car H code with auto. It is tough to find the tilt column for 73 again only year that fits and when people pull them out the leave some of the pieces. The rag joints are crazy expensive. I got this one complete in ginger for $260.00. Well going to go open the box and see if I was told the truth about the column. I put a couple pics of the interior on the Mach 1 it
  17. Yes it was new but when I wanted every option it was only $57.00 more. Do you not want that time machine to go back? David Did you get the intermittent wipers as well? Found the notice from the web site in junk mail so I was slow answering. Yes I did get intermittent wipers. They are listed as Interval Windshield Wipers on sticker and cost $23.23 back then. The only option not on the car was the engine block heater. There are some options not there because you could not get them on a Mach 1. I think I got the scan of dealer invoice, written order & Invoice for what I pa

  19. It is tough on them I changed the front ball joints twice in 12,000 miles. When you hit a curb sliding sideways it breaks something.
  20. That is a great fix for the switch and good info for those needing them. You have to get more cautious getting into the car I broke mine with pants leg getting caught on it and I am sure my convertible will be the same way. I am right at 6'5" so not many cars fit me but the mustangs do. Great info for those with the defroster. David
  21. Randy you need to take the convertibles out of the totals You can use the knob from a new power top switch Item #D1ZZ-15668 71-73 CONVERTIBLE TOP SWITCH ASSEMBLY Includes correct plastic knob and die cast chrome nut. Made exactly like originals. Price: $49.95 Hard to find PARK and BELTS lights Thank you for that information. Furthermore, can anyone confirm whether the backlite switch is merely a momentary switch or something more complex? I have already put the switches up or I would have hooked a meter to one. The pic is some NOS ones that I bought i
  22. I also end up at the local Goodwill's a couple times a week. I got a killer video set up that I use going to Africa. It is Sony HDR-FX1 1080 HD camera that had different lens, 40 gig portable hard drive, will also record on tape or memory. Had the editing box, filters, microphones and full camera bag, shoulder mount and on and on. When I got home we looked everything up on the net and it was over $10,000.00 and I paid $850.00. The first time I used it was at granddaughters graduation and a local TV news crew guy came up and asked if I did professional video work and I said no that I got it at
  23. Once I was at the local Ford dealer and saw a couple guys carrying out all these books and tossing them into a pickup. I went to the owner of the dealership and asked what was up. He said we are throwing out all the old owners manuals and service and parts books. They were both Ford, American Motors and Jeep at the time. I asked if I could have them and he said yes. I loaded up my old 69 ford van and sold hundreds of dollars worth at swap meets and still have boxes full. I bet I have a hundred new owners manuals for several years of Ford pickups. Going to put some on eBay and see what happens.
  24. That was a nice job on the console. If you want a sticker shock get a quote to plate the chrome again. Not too many places can do plastic and we all know the instrument cluster, center dash, console and right dash all have the little bit of chrome showing to set it off. The quote I got just for the speedo / tach part was $450.00 so you would need to do that for 4 pieces. I told them they were crazy and did not do it. Going to research on if you can buy pieces of the material that they do car wraps with. I saw several in China and the entire car looked like chrome. It is some kind of plastic wr
