  1. Just a little info for those who are into original stuff, paint markings etc. After cleaning up my rear sway bar to re-install, I found an ORANGE stripe near the end link on driver's side. Car is a 72 Q code Mach 1 built in Dearborn April 17, 1972. Sorry pic is a little fuzzy.
  2. New leaf springs and shocks this weekend. All bolts came out easily except one of the spring bolts. It was stuck to the bushing. Drilled out the rubber and split the metal sleeve. Not fun. Next up: sway bar end links (broke them both), back half of exhaust and gas tank.
  3. Antennas were installed at the dealer, holes and all. Maybe that's where the customer wanted it. Inside air cleaners were black. The blue is over spray. Over spray is not uncommon. especially on non-visible areas. The underside of the car usually had body and primer over spray too. Here is a screenshot of the brand new 71 Mach 1 from the movie "Diamonds Are Forever", showing over spray under car. So are you saying air cleaners were painted Black then Blue? What was the point of that? Not so economical for Ford who went to great lengths painting other engine bay items with left over paint (Slop Gray) Also are you stating all Radio antennae were dealer fitted including drilling of holes?.. Yes, that's what I am saying. Perhaps the air cleaners came from the supplier in semi-gloss black. Every un-restored air cleaner I have ever seen was black on the inside, including the under-side of lid. Antennas were all placed in the car's trunks at the factory with a template and instructions for installation at the dealer. MCA head Judge, Bob Perkins also confirms this. There is not much slop gray on 71-73 cars, just the hood latch bracket, headlight housing L brackets and shock tower braces. Although this can also be close to black.

  5. The 72 4v/CJ was different 2750-2900. I will look through my specs, obviously different part number too.
  6. That one is still there. Must have been somewhere else too. Thanks
  7. This was under my 72 Mach 1 after removing and replacing the C6 transmission. I'm fairly certain it was on the car somewhere. Things removed are vacuum lines, transmission lines, linkage, drive shaft etc. Anyone recognize? Thanks
  8. A good day, transmission is in. For anyone wanting to swap out the "CJ" flexplate, D1ZZ-6375-C, that has a 9.3" torque converter bolt pattern with one that has a 11 7/16 pattern. The part number that fits is D1ZZ-6375-A, which is for a 71 M code. I bought the ATP Z110 and it seems decent quality, fit is good. Thanks
  9. I was a little confused in that the FRA-202 shows a 24 oz imbalance instead of 28 oz. Since the alternate part number is D1ZZ-6375-A it must be 28.
  10. Maybe the flexplate is wrong then. Turned around the other way it's much worse, not even close. When I say stamped the other way. I should have said stamped deeper closer to the center. Thanks
  11. Well, I guess case not closed. I bought the Pioneer FR 205 flexplate. Depth of teeth and torque converter end play all the same but it smashes up against the block spacer plate. It is due the the spacer plate having 2 dimples and the flexplate stamped the opposite way than the original one. Back to searching, maybe for a new block plate.
  12. Thanks but I have decided on the standard flex plate and a new 2800-3200 converter. Parts ordered. I will keep the originals and have the converter re-built someday, since I am an big on originality. Thanks again everyone, case closed.
  13. Great A big thanks to EVERYONE. Now I know what my options are. Hope to have the car back on the road soon. I figured while I'm fixing all the mouse damage, I will take care of some other things I put off before I parked it.
  14. Thank you Any special part number on the flexplate? One for a 71 M code or a 72 2v?
  15. great! I will try these 2. If no luck I will just switch out the flex plate with one that has a common bolt pattern. I assume something available will have the correct pitch etc. Thanks for the help
  16. Thanks for the pic. My flex plate looks exactly like yours with the obvious 4 holes used. I didn't find a "B" marking on the converter, but did find a "6 9" on the stud side edge. I said earlier that the bolt pattern was 9.5", but it actually measures 9 3/8" or 9.375. All I could find in that pattern is for a C4 transmission. It's surely a C6.
  17. Correct, the 72 Q code came with a high stall converter, 2750-2900. Upon further investigation, the flexplate does have 8 holes in a 9.5" pattern. The converter I took off has no markings and was a 4 bolt, using half of the holes. I'm assuming it was replaced at some point, although the other 4 holes in the flexplate do not looked disturbed at all. The plot thickens. :)
  18. Thanks for the replies. I have to do more investigating if the 72's had an 8 bolt converter! The one I took off has 4 so maybe it's not original. Car was built 4/72 Going to take a closer look at the flexplate today.
  19. Hi, I am trying to find a torque converter for my 72 Mach 1 with a C6. The stock one I pulled off is 10" and has a 9 1/2" bolt pattern. The problem I'm having is finding a torque converter with a 9 1/2" bolt pattern. Apparently Ford only used this set-up for a very short time, maybe 72 only? I tried all the Jegs and Summit stuff including B&M, ACC, Hughes, Jegs. Any ideas?? Thanks
  20. Thanks all. I was offered one via PM and sent payment today.
  21. Looking for a good one, thanks anyway!
  22. Looking for a mini console (short one). Color doesn't matter but want one with no burn marks, cracks. Please let me know what you have. Thanks

    1971 Q code

That air cleaner decal was used on 69 Shelby 428. Maybe added? Interesting.
  24. Today was transmission day, or so I thought. I have a leaking front seal and the plan was to put in a new seal and check out everything else. Transmission bolts out, wires and vacuum lines disconnected, linkage unhooked, starter off, cross member off. Transmission stuck to engine :@ I'm beat up and tired.
  25. There was a nest and food under the console. There was also a nest behind the back interior quarter panel. The most interesting thing was the exhaust. It was all the way up to the engine. I pulled the pipes off the manifolds and dumped out a mix of bird seed, insulation and dog food, lots of it.
