  1. Like I said in the initial post...I'm not involved with the local club because of work. I, like some uneducated people, assumed that National meant a major once a year thing, but apparently I was wrong. From what I've read today, I'm now assuming that it is one of the several National Shows. That does not change my offer or hoping that some of us can make a trip in Lincoln. This is what I've gathered. This show will be in August of 2014 held in downtown Lincoln, NE. The city of Lincoln is in the process of building a new arena with open air "festival space" and large 1700 space parking lot attached. The city has offered this space for the event, they are also asking that the local minor league baseball team have a game that weekend as a tie-in...the ball field is adjacent to the area also. Embassy Suits will be the host hotel and is about 3 blocks from the arena. Also, Speedway Motors is located in Lincoln and the owner Bill Smith has a large car collection/speed museum that will be part of the events on Friday. There will also be a road course. I know this is a long ways off but some people want/need to plan ahead for things like this. Shawn
  2. It's official, well has been for a couple of months, the National 2014 MCA show will be in Lincoln, NE Aug. 2014. Lincoln is centrally located and within easy driving distance (8-10 hrs) of Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Denver, Oklahoma City, Dallas, Denver. I'm hoping that we have some good turnout for 71-73 Mustangs!! I'm sure that mine will not be ready unless I win the lottery and develop some major skills FAST. But, I guess if I win big enough I can hire someone to do it all :D. I'm not very involved with the local groups because of my work schedule but will keep you guys in the loop with info as it becomes available. Also, would be willing to do some advertising for the site when the time comes.
  3. Very strange indeed, what you say that about the p.s. cooler. I have a '73 and my mother bought it new in '73. Mine sits in exactly the same place, now I have a 302 2v but it may not be be too weird...maybe that's where it was placed from the factory, mine WAS. In fact IIRC in the shop manuals I have it's shown in that position.
  4. Looks really nice! Still not my favorite color but all the black really helps. The '73 of my nightmares was a coupe with no black on it at all and it was waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much aqua, lol. Congratulations!
  5. That's the spoiler I've always wanted on my car too! I've had it in my head for 30 years now. Maybe, just maybe, if I ever get my car to my place where I can start working on it...
  6. In my humble opinion, med aqua, is one ugly color. It is not as deep as grabber blue and has more green. When my mother bought my mustang new in 73 she had the choice or our green gold or med aqua and I hated it then as an 8 year old and still do! I have a 73 mustang paint chip card that I bought off ebay and the color is as bad as I remember it. I love grabber blue but something is off about the med aqua to my eye. The true color sits somewhere between the two pics you have. it is like the top one in lightness with the green of the second one mixed in, if that makes any sense. I can see if I can scan the color card but then we are still talking about monitor differences. let me know if you want me to try.
  7. Ok, I'll admit it I still don't have my car at my place so I can start in on it...AND I know nothing about cars BUT. If there is major repair work to fix the problems like 72HCode had, wouldn't it be just as easy to put in a Rod and Custom Motorsport Mustang II front end kit? The kit cost is about $2500 and would seem to make the car safer and maybe handle better in the long haul.
  8. If this is in the wrong place, sorry. Has anyone seen the GoDaddy.com ad with the red 71 - 73 convert? Yeah, the focus is suppose to be on the hot cop chick and the hot driver chick, but I wanted to see more the car! I did see that it had the painted bumper so automatically thought 73 but maybe they used them in 72 like they did on the Mach I? Anyway, a sighting to watch for. OK, it seems I'm way behind the times. After some internet searching I see that it was an ad for the Indy500 and was the most watched GoDaddy commercial, however can't find it on the godaddy site. The full version, which I did not see last night, is on you tube and well it's still about the hot chicks and not the car...not that that's a bad thing but...
  9. Same here...I don't exactly know what happened this year but I think that it skipped at least a week if not two! Wasn't it like the 4th when I went to bed last night?
  10. My '73 coupe has been in the family sine he was born. Yes, it's a boy...he's very temperamental about that. Anyway, my mom bought it new in North Platte, NE in May of 1973. There were 2 mustangs left on the lot and there would not be anymore coming in before the "next generation" or abomination was due to be released. She had her choice of the greengold or a horrific blue. I still remember, plain as day exactly where they sat on the lot next to each other looking so damn cool. I also remember begging her not to pick the blue one, gawd, anything but that awful blue. Of course it had an all black interior so grandpa was able to convince her that it would get too hot sitting in the sun all day. Thank god she listed to reason. In fact, I never did see that car driven around town and was heard that it was sent to another dealer because they couldn't sell it. When I was 15, she sold me the car and he was my h.s. car and first couple of years of college. When the mileage hit 100,000 I knew that I didn't want to drive it into the ground so left it at home for my grandparents to drive. They did until 1995 or 96 and it has sat in their driveway, covered, since. This fall I was hoping to get it to Lincoln, where I finally have a garage and time and some money to work on it but it didn't work out so I'm waiting till spring as I don't really want to deal with it in the cold weather. Oh well, more time to plan, dream, study and get my nerve up to the task of working on it. One other thing...the blue. I LOVE the Grabber Blue and have pointed it out to my mother who just gave me a dirty look and said "yours could have been that color but you didn't want it, remember?" Oh how well I remember, and had to inform her that the awful blue WAS NOT Grabber Blue but a color called Medium Turquoise, it's slightly lighter and greener than GB and well if you've ever seen it you've probably thought WTF were they thinking with that color? Can you tell I'm still not a fan, 37 years later? ;)
  11. Trying to decide what system to start looking at after I get done with the engine work I have planned for the next couple months. I've decided that a disk break upgrade is in order (gawd I've always hated my spongy breaks). Then thought well if I'm there maybe I need to think about a front suspension upgrade. In doing some research I'm leaning towards the R & C MII and an wanting to know if anyone here has actually gone this route. Everything I've read people say the company is reputable and good products etc, but I'm leery. Not of the company but if this is the way to go. It takes out the old shock towers, so there's no going back. I'm only going to use it as a weekend driver maybe a few local shows, I'm thinking it may be overkill. However, if I find that my shock towers are "gone" like some others have, this seems like a perfect fix. Doc, I know you just did your front end and you referred to using HCodes instructions (?). I think I remember seeing those at one point but can't find them now...even used the search feature....hmmm. Would I be better off just doing a disk conversion and leaving best alone? Opinions sought here... If you're not familiar with R&C frontend replacement.
  12. Finally a question that I can answer LOL. YES you can switch them from one side to the other. In fact that's what I did 25+ years ago when I recovered my seats in h.s. Yes the track adjuster is on the "wrong side" as well as the back seat access knob, we just wired it up so that the latch did not catch. OK, maybe that's not the safest but who really wants to sit back there to come flying forward during a stop to push the seat forward. Other than simple safety reasons I don't see the point of the latches anyway.
  13. I agree the color is very nice! Wonder if there are any other cars this color around? If there are those are some pretty lucky owners! :D
  14. HA! My mother works for those bastages, in the grocery area and she told me yesterday that they have 10 pallets of candy in the backroom waiting to go out for Halloween and they have been there for almost 6 weeks now. As for Christmas I was in the local HobbyLobby around Aug 5 and they already had all of their Christmas trees, decorations and displays out. Better than last year when they had it all out buy July 15 and I somewhat loudly stood in the middle of the store and announced "WTF? It's not even Aug and you greedy bastards are shoving Christmas down our throats?" then put down the merchandise I was going to buy and walked out.
  15. dancebanana who would have thought!
  16. That's exactly what I was thinking...not sure what I think it looks like specifily but looks very much like an imitation Mopar car to me. No likey so much.
  17. I too kind of like the front end but hate the rear end. Especially hate the way the blue does not follow the body but curves and has a corvette shape also don't like the side scoops.
  18. They only sell yardage is what I read. Have ordered some samples of their vinyl to see color and quality...hopefully a price list will be included. I'll keep ya posted. I can report that TMI is very quick with email response and sending out samples as I ordered anything mustang green from them and had them within 2-3 days, however nothing AG or even close.
  19. Ok, I get more confused every time I think about this. I am buying parts a little at a time $100-200 each pay period in preparation for my journey. And I'm now at a stuck point. I already have the 45,000v Flame Thrower Coil and a new set of Pertronix wires so I'm pretty much decidated to a Pertronix II ignition but that is where I get bogged down. I can buy the ignitorII and put it in the current distributor cap but if I'm replacing shouldn't that be replaced also? OK, so a Motorcraft distr. cap can be had for $20-25 plus prob a different rotor? Then there is the Pertronix cap and rotor for $35. Or should I simply spend the extra $140 and get the Billet plug and play kit. I really don't want to make the wrong decision and then have to go buy something else when I could have spent that money elsewhere. Any thoughts? Oh, and I guess the most important thing which one do I get 8cyl single point, 8cyl dual point w/o vac or 8cyl dual point w vac? I think I need the dual with vac, correct? It's for an unmodified 302 2v.
  20. As many of you know, I have an avocado interior and the carpet, headliner, seats etc are not reproduced by anyone. I've been whining about it for a few months now and everyone is sick of it LOL. I ordered a marti report and found that there were 3940 (?) GreenGold coupes produced in Dearborn with 2870 (?) of those having AG interiors. Therefor I decided that I'm going to change up the interior and replace some of the parts in white and make it an original two-tone white/ag interior. So off I went searching the internet for green leather/vinyl that I think will work. Well, low and behold I run across a company in Oregon SMS. This from there site www.smsautofabrics.com SMS has supplied quality auto interiors since 1977. We have the world's largest inventory of automobile cloth and vinyl, and can provide auto upholstery, headliners, vinyl tops, and carpet for every American car from 1930 through 2000. We also manufacture and supply exact reproduction interior door panels for cars from 1950 through the early 1970s. Whatever your interior need, SMS can help! WOW! So I did a search and they do show the AG vinyl in both textures and have ordered swatches, ordered white too just in case. So now I'm really scratching my head...do I still do the white/ag or all ag? hmmmmmmmmm...it's way down the line on things to do but at least I found a source. And for others it might come in handy someday.
  21. Thanks for the words of encouragement in the other thread about the "while I'm under here virus"! Really appreciate it. My car is still 240 miles away and trying to figure out the perfect time/way to get it into my garage. Guess I need to start with making space in the garage LOL! Anyway for those who haven't heard about my project. My mother bought the car new in 73 and drove it till 80. I got it in 80 and drove it through high school and the first couple years of college. I then left it home for my grandparents to drive around town until 95. At that time it was parked and covered, outside, and had been there since. I've not had the location or money to do anything with it till now. I posted pics I took a couple of weeks ago in the post "I've created a monster" and here they are again. I don't think I have major structural damage but lots of rust around the edges, wheel wells, bottoms of fenders etc. and some worrying (to me) spots under the hood on the inside of the fenders in the exact same spot on both sides a few inches in front of the hinges. Thanks again shawn
  22. I thought this was suppose to be a nice supportive place. Now I'm going to go home tonight and have nightmares. I'm stressed enough trying to figure out how I'm going to revive my car in the most economical way possible...not to mention I'm not mechanical. I'm starting to wonder about me .
  23. That does not surprise me as avocado interior parts are very hard to come by. I need to replace carpet, upholstery (front) and dash and am trying to figure out how I'll do it as the color is not reproduced. I have, thanks to this site, found a possible lead or two on some other parted out avocado interiors that I can get plastic parts etc from. And they are just now starting to produce avocado vinyl dye and interior lacquer. Once I order a Marti report and find out how truly "special" the gg exterior with av interior is I might decide to change it. Of course if there were only 3 produced I'm sticking with av lol!
  24. Woot! Another greengold! That makes 3, yours, my coupe and the vert in KS owned by 73GreenGold (stange name me thinks ). Two interesting things to note, we are in IA, NE and KS and you have a black interior, the other vert is white and mine is avocado. Until recently I could not tell you where there was another greengold anywhere in the country. Are you planning to leave it or change the color?
