  1. After a lot of soul searching and mulling it over I have decided to sell my 71 coupe. This car is not for the faint of heart. I built it to race then changed it to more of a B/A street machine. It has a 69 429 thunder jet engine with a weiand tunnel ram with dual 600 holleys. It has a isky cam with 270/280 duration and a .519 lift. Unilite centrifugal advance distributer with Mallory Promaster coil with Mallory 6AL controller. It has a heavy duty C6 auto and 3.54 trac-loc rear end. The car has around 500 HP and is bad to the bone. It was built to race but has never been down a track. I swapped the 3.91 gears out to 3.54 for better street manners. The body is rust free but not perfect. The car has been sitting for a while but started and warmed up on a regular basis. It will drive anywhere but might need a little carb work before going down a track as it hesitates a little when you get on it till it warms up good. I have a pile of money in it but willing to let it go for 11500.00 firm! I have other projects and need to move something to free up some cash.

I have a lot of pictures but cant seem to get them to post. PM me with email address for pictures. Car is located in Keystone, South Dakota.

  2. I'll throw in my 2 cents here. As some one who has owned several over the years. There is just something about the bore and stroke of a 429 that makes them work very well. 429 engines prior to 72 are the ones to have. The thunder jet engines from the T-birds were very good. 11.5 to one close chamber heads and tuned right they survive on todays pump gas pretty well. I have owned a C code 71 Mach 429 CJR and it did not like todays pump gas as well. The 71 mustang I have now is a 69 thunder jet with dual 4 bbls and runs very well. I have had this same combo in a couple trucks and loved it. A friend built to the hilt a 460 and I could have my way with him at any time I wanted. I don't have any experience with the stoker engines except a 347 cobra engine. But IMHO the 429 is the best big block ford ever made. And bullet proof as well. The one in my 71 coupe will brake them loose at 45 MPH and I am running 354 gears. Tons of torque.

ok, cool . you need to let us know how much power you want . 429 cj heads work well but aluminum ones work better . the cj heads will be hard to find and very expensive . you aint gonna find a complete cobra jet engine ever . you can stroke the 429 and get big power.

Here's one... kidding... it is real but spoken for

429 CJR rare engine. only used in satags and Torinos

  3. If you replace it with the same type of product you might want to stay away from the stuff made by custom auto carpet. I just bought from them and it was rolled up in a box. When I unrolled it ,it was so bridle it broke apart. They wouldn't even answer my email when I contacted their customer service. I should have went with boom mat or something like that. But wanted to stay original like the manufacture used.

  4. I have 2 4 post lifts in my shop. Love them as you don't have to mount them to the floor. And they come with wheel jacks so you can move them. One person can move them very easy. Bought one used and paid 1500 and one new for 2200. My shop has 12 foot ceiling so easy to use. Great for working on cars great for storing one up one down.

  5. Yea I had them on mine at one time. I really built it to race but its never been down a track. But they looked BOSS on the car. Then I put the AC stuff back on it and a deluxe interior and plates and still it sits. But like my wife says...it looks good doing it. No NOS on mine the 11.5 compression wouldn't like it much. Besides you cant keep it hooked up now.

Your being kind lol. I think at 15 large that might be reaching a bit. I offered mine to someone last year for 11 and It is finished.

What do you mean finished? That car is like new. Didn't you read the description.

    Oh my mistake lol.

I see an Australian with a shaved head, missing most of his teeth driving through the desert with a couple guns mounted on the roof..

Just needs a massive brush guard with off road lights!

I had mine sold last year @ 11K and the guy scared himself with it so it is back in my shop. And it is a long way from perfect IMHO.

  7. I have an AM/FM 8 track date coded from 1973 but it's not from a Mustang it's from either a Thunderbird or a Lincoln. It works but poorly so it would be only for show unless you wanted to get it repaired or take it on yourself. Still it's not correct for Mustang and the AM 8 tracks I looked at last summer at Carlisle were to rich for my blood.

Thanks, I will keep it in mind but really looking for a mustang AM 8 track.

They're out there but trying to find a working unit is hard and could be a little expensive. I put an AM/FM in mine it's a vintage Ford unit and works great. If you do find one I've found 8track tapes through AMAZON. I bought one just for looks that's all they were ever good for anyway.

Thanks again, I am very old school. I have several hundred 8 track tapes and I also still have a 8 track player in my home stereo system. I still play them. I have reel to reel and records too. Love my old stuff. I have a 63 seaburg juke box in my shop. Guess I am showing my age lol.

  8. here is a video with the setup installed and working.

here is where I have the DMHD-1000i box installed.

its mounted with Velcro so no drilling in to the heater box.

the nice part of the DMHD-1000 it as a wireless remote.

This is great! Can you tell me where to get this and how to install it. I have 3 cars with 8 tracks and would love to have this option.

  10. Thank you very much! That is the one I was looking for.

Recently I seen some radio's for sale there were some AM 8 tracks as well as others. I thought it was on this site but cant remember. I cant seem to find it now. Anyone know if there was a member selling factory AM 8 tracks?

They were here. I think one was a later model with AM/FM 8 track but might have been AM/8Track also. I sent the seller a message looking for the rear mount for AM/8Track but did not get an answer back. I got a good working AM/8Track off eBay for less than $100. If you do get one you also need to do some work on the tapes. You can buy the foam pads that go in the center, new drive rolls, splices and sensor strips. If you don't keep the drive shafts in the player clean with alcohol and the head they will eat the tapes. If they don't play correct the tape needs a rebuild. Here is link to one of the suppliers of the repair parts. http://katestrackshack.com/deluxe_repair_kit.html

They will last forever some of mine were bought in early 60's and still play. I have an adapter somewhere that will play a cassette tape in the 8-Track player.

What is hard to find is a working example of the 45 RPM player for your car. It played the records from the bottom to prevent skipping. I like the old audio and video.

Do a search back about a week ago for the seller.

Thank you! I don't do ebay at all. Got taken for 1300.00 and NO Help from ebay or pay-pal. But thanks for the information. I have a player in my 71. Now looking for one for my 70 that is just about done. I am very much old school. I have an 8 track in my home system that I have used since day one. Also one in my 68 Charger. Just love them. I noticed your handle (Carolina mustang) Are you also a mustang vendor? Been looking for some new vendors. Still have another stang to restore. And still needing a few parts for the one I am working on now. I have a 70 vert. that is pretty much a shell. Was a 351 W with P/S and P/brakes with AC. Thinking of doing a Shelby 500KR tribute since so much is missing anyway. Thanks again for the response.

  11. There will always be back orders. That I understand. What I did not understand is why when I placed the order (before I knew there would be back order) The whole order was quoted at 14.99 to ship. The second shipment was 17.99 by itself. So more than quoted for the entire order. At any rate I wont ever make this mistake again. Any way I just feel if you feel a vendor (or anyone for that matter) takes advantage of you. It should be brought to the attention of others. Then they can take note and decide if they want to buy from that party. From now on I will order by phone ONLY and if anything is not in stock I will find different vendor. We all know that in this hobby shipping plays a huge role in the cost of building or restoring a car.

The obvious solution is to build in the shipping costs into the cost of the parts. That's what I do; my stated costs are flat-rated and the same for everyone, including shipping. I even eat sales taxes when I sell something within my state (Florida, not Mind *G*). The only time I add shipping costs is when it is an overseas sale.

Although I have restored mustangs of all years for a long time. I don't know of that many vendors. I usually just look on line and pick one. I can say Mustangs unlimited sent a back ordered item to me freight free a while back. Like most that do a lot of cars I do try to bargain hunt for the best parts at the best price. I am not like most with one or two cars. I own at any one time around 10 to 15. I buy sell and trade cars. So always working on something.

I will give a serious look at OMS and others on the site. Thanks for all the comments and vendor endorsements.

  12. I would like to report on a purchase I just made from OCAP and maybe vent a bit. I ordered 10 parts from these folks. When I did online check out for all parts ordered it said shipping will be 14.99. So when the parts came there was more than half the order back ordered. Well fine..or so I thought. Yesterday I received yet a few more parts. This time with a shipping charge for 17.99. What gives?? So I call them and they tell me we charge shipping every time we ship (we have to) So I ask if it is my fault they don't have every item in there catalog? The answer was we charge for every item we ship regardless. Then why I ask you is the shipping for the second shipment more than the first which should have been everything? NO ANSWER!! I canceled everything else that was back ordered! Just wanting to let people here know that they WILL rip you off if they get a chance. I will go with out parts before I ever order from them again!
