I'm a Field Service Technician in the lumber sawmill industry. My main focus is sharpening and benching equipment for band saws and circular saws. I travel mostly the south east with a few trips to Canada.....eh ! I don't get alot of time to work on Heavy Metal, but making progress. I'm 2yrs into a 3yr project and alot of the rough stuff is finished. New floors, F/R Torque Boxes, Inner Rockers, New 5 Point Seats and Pans, Body work and the car is in Primer. I may do the rear seat delete.........I had suggestions of a fold down bar with booze........Finishing up the engine compartment

Need a good carb
Heavy Metal replied to eventhorizon's topic in Engine, Transmission, Drive Line, Etc
I have a 73' vert with a 306 and I'm all about Edelbrock 600CFM #1406 with electric choke. It's very easy to set up and always holds a tune. My car has been on jack stands for 2 yrs and I start it every 3-6 weeks, depending on what it doing to it. The carb is very old and was neglected, still runs like a champ........ ::thumb:: Cheers, HVY MTL -
Put a new master cylinder on "Heavy Metal"......of coarse I need n adapter fitting for the rear brake line. The rear fitting in new master cylinder is 3/8-24 and the OEM line is 7/16-24.....gotta love it. Some days you need patience......and alot of beer..... ::beer::

Heavy Metal replied to Gooner94's topic in Craigslist, eBay and Online Ads
Welcome from South Carolina. I say go for it, you will learn so much and will it test your problem solving capabilities. There is soooooo much to do on these cars, they are 50yrs old. Make a punch list and chip away at it, small victories will keep you going. ::thumb:: -

+1 The fact that it runs so well in spite of it all is a testament of how awesome Edelbrock's are - try getting a Holley to run missing half it's sh!t. :whistling:  rofl...............LOL........i agree.... ::thumb:: -
Best Carb for the job????
Heavy Metal replied to Ricard's topic in Engine, Transmission, Drive Line, Etc
I had a 71' Mach 1 with 351C that was to Boss spec........Boss clone. Holley 750 DP, Offenhauser intake, strip cam, Hooker Super Comp's headers, 3:91 Drag Pack. It was an absolute beast.....but....I could only hold a tune on that Holley for 6 months, and seasons in PA change quickly. Currently have a Edelbrock 1406 600CFM on my 302 in 73" vert, and its old nasty and never lost performance after sitting a few months. Call Edelbrock and ask there engineer's for the proper CFM carb for your engine and mods. I dont think I'll ever run another carb but Edelbrock.........just my opinio -

Wooden Steering Wheel
Heavy Metal replied to Heavy Metal's topic in Interior, Seats, Door Panels, Trunk, Glass, etc
Mine is sorta in between as far as the dish depth goes. I picked it because I prefer the thinner grip and a smaller area around the horn button. Mine did come with a tribar symbol horn button. Just didn’t put it on yet while I have the interior out. I am happy with them. I got both the wheel and the black powdercoated 6- bolt column hub adapter from CJPonyparts. It’s a 6-bolt 15” 1965 GT350 style woodgrain wheel with rivets. Like everyone else I prefer Ohio Mustang for most stuff but I strayed on that one (and the wheel predictably and frustratingly got backordered even though it showed -

edelbrock 1406 questions

I have the same carb on my 73 vert with 302. You will have a tough time getting the engine to run at a cold start. You will need the choke flap and linkage, electric or manual choke to start consistently. A new carb ready to go is $365.00, you can find them rebuilt and complete for much less. I hope this helps, Heavy Metal
