  1. Hi, restoring a 73 mach 1 and thinking of going big wheels, pro touring style and looking to pick up on some info and ideas, much like this. Any ideas thrown my way is much appreciated. image of a safe
  2. That suits my cruising style. On the strength of this thread I've just ordered a 1 1/8 front and 7/8 rear sway bars, to replace the basic front and NO rear sway bar. Should be an improvement along with the new excel shocks I'm running.
  3. Great thread, on a really good wedge site. I have new KYB excel shocks fitted, they came as part of a full kit and look like the cheap option. My Question is - would KYB gas-a-just be a much better improvement over the excels ?
  4. Thanks for the replies and links. Think I'll pass this up till I know more.
  5. Hello all. I have it in mind to convert my 72 Mach1 302ci 3 speed top loader to a 5 speed and have seen this advert over here in the UK. Will this trans fit my car ? "Borg Warner 5 spd (Tremec T5) manual gearbox very soon if anyone is interested.. Its virtually brand new, as its only covered 4000 miles ! Complete with bell housing, shifter etc., Has been mated to a 350 Chevy Looking for around £800 They retail at over £2k"
  6. Will do. I'll take the springs off and try the half coil at a time route and see what I come up with. Many thanks once again.
  7. Excellent Mustang7173. Thank you very much for all the well informed leg work you've done on this subject. There is quite a difference between the 4L and 4K springs. For a start there is nearly a one coil difference between the two springs. Mine being the 4K eight coils. Which begs the question of, companies that offer full suspension kits inturpreting Small Blocks kits as using 9 coils and Big Block kits as using 10 coils, is misleading. I have been exchanging emails with Laurel Mountain Mustang over the past few days, complete with the photos in the thread. The last email stated the front SB 9 coils, supplied with the kit, will do most of their 'settling' in the first 100 miles. With a 4 1/2" gap between the top of the tyre and the wing arch, I can't see it myself and think there should be advice on cars fitted with engine bay extras. I will phone Eaton Detroit springs and see what they have to offer. Excellent Mustang7173. Thank you very much for all the well informed leg work you've done on this subject. 8. Mustang7173, That's a cool posting with all the details. It nearly makes sense to me although I am not sure of a couple of things under "1972 mustangs listings". From what I can make out, my car is either '63R(N32)' or '63R(N33)' My car comes with PS only so following the graph down is either a 4L or a 4K. Which are two different sets of springs ? What do you guys think ? I did find an old build sheet under the carpet when I stripped the car. Here are a couple of photos of the sheet to help (or hinder further) :) Ha. first on the list are a couple of electric fans and a 5 speed conversion. But then that's another thread ;)
  9. Would my car have come with stock or competition suspension ? It's a Mach 1 running a 3 speed and 302 and only the small front anti roll bar. I'm guessing this would be stock ?
  10. Have seen these 8 coils on ebay, advertised by LMM, for 71-73 302 351 cars. Could be the answer to the problem ? Link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380464446508&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en
  11. I have emailed LMM and they asked for measurements and numbers of coils I'm running 15x8 rear and 15x7 front. Gap at the rear, top of tyre to arch is 2" (I'm happy with that) but front gap is 4 1/2" ?? There are 9 coils on front springs.
  12. Probably the best move with hindsight. I have sent LMM an email with both photos attached to see what they suggest. Then I will go from there. Thanks.
  13. Thank you all for your replies, some funny :) Just looked back over the order and the full suspension kit I bought from Laurel Mtn mustangs is clearly marked as SB. However like has been explained, there are so many variations, it could mean anything. Will probably wait till everything is fitted, including the screen and if it is still too high I will cut one half of one spring off. I've not done this before and would guess it comes off the bottom of the spring.
  14. Thank you, I am two years into a full restoration. This has had a couple of months to settle but it looks like it's not going to settle as much as expected. I don't thing the screen and carpet will make much difference some how :)) Another angle.
