Coal Digger Drag Race 71 Mustang

Reading my Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine got me curious about a picture of this Roush 351CJ powered Mach1 with the Boss hod blackout and chrome bumper. The magazine picture was the race at the Indy US Nationals in 1976 so the car was probably heavily modified to save weight as it ran a 10.96 ET. There was only one picture I could find on-line (see link below) but it's hard to say when it's from but the clothing is very 70's.

Well duh - As I reread the caption of the picture in the article it said the car is in the Roush museum in Livonia Michigan. Can anyone confirm this?

Here is one of Muldowney's cars at the Don Garlits museum in Gainesville,FL. Went there with my son last March.

http://www.hotrod.com/eventcoverage/hrdp_1302_the_fastest_street_cars_in_america_hot_rod_drag_week/viewall.html Drag Week Link, down a bit under street race big block results you will see Bill Fowler's 71 vert was a big winner!

04] Bill Fowler credits NASCAR-style valvespring oilers, pressure-fed 0.904-inch Isky EZ Roll roller lifters, bronze-bushed lifter bores, and mild camshaft-lobe ramps (which allow him to run fairly low spring pressures) for the reliability of his Ford’s valvetrain. Bill says he’s only running 230 pounds of seat pressure with a Comp solid roller cam that has 0.830 lift and 278/287 degrees of duration.

Wow! Thats a lot of lift!
