As some of you may recall, I have been acquiring all the parts to replace the 428SCJ motor that is currently in "Fire" (my '73 Mach 1) with a bored and stroked 429SCJ to build a 545. The 428SCJ is going into my '69 Mach 1:).

Well, on yesterday the family and I make the trek to Cuba, Missouri to drop off all the parts at Dave Mclain Automotive and Machine shop to put the motor together and dyno it.

Finmach: Dave does remember meeting you while at the show in Denmark and I passed on your regards.

Needless to say, I am getting REAL excited!

That's awesome BT! I know you have been planning this build for quite a while.

Can you give us a run down of the parts selection and goals for your build?

Is Dave going to dyno it for you?

Best regards,

T

Yes, Tommy.

The goal is primarily for a really STRONG street motor.

The major parts are:

429SCJ (4-bolted mains) Block bored .030 over with screw in core plugs

RPM 4.500" forged crankshaft

RPM 4340 Connecting Rods

Diamond .030 dish pistons

Diamond/Total Seal piston rings

Trick Flow Street Heads (Fully ported by Charlie Evans)

Trick Flow TFS-53400621 Rocker Arms

Trick Flow R Intake Manifold (also ported by Charlie Evans)

Comp Cams XR 286 Solid Roller

Competition Carburetor modified HP 1000 carbureter

Russell 641520 Fuel System

Hooker 6201 Super Comp Headers

Canton 15-750 Oil Pan with 15-751 Pick UP

High Flow Dynamics modified M84BHV Oil Pump

MSD 6AL-6420 Ignition Box

Edelbrock 8866 Water Pump

MSD 8577 Distributer

I have a Broader C6 that will be backing the motor up along with 35 spline axles and an aluminum drive shaft.

We think it will do "what we want it to do:)"

...and yes, Dave will be dynoing it.

Let me be the first to guess...

650 hp

735 ft/lbs of torque:D

Hey, THAT sounds like a GREAT exercise!

Lets see who can come closest to the final highest HP and torque numbers:)!!

BT
Edit the title and throw down the gauntlet!
Another GREAT idea, Tommy!

The title has been edited.

I will also add that the Regular Member who comes closest will have Membership paid for a VIP Membership.

If the "winner" is a VIP Member, I will spring for one order of any item in the following link.

http://webfinitydesign.spreadshirt.com/7173mustangs-C101068

The "challenge" is out there:)!

BT

665 HP / 745 TQ :D BTW, I'm so jealous !,

Eric

As Luke pointed out -- the compression is unknown, has your engine builder told you the compression ratio?

Yes, I should have advised that the compression will be @ 10.5.

I will also add that the heads flow 372.8/243.6 @ .750 valve lift.

Based on the above, if anyone would like to revise their estimate, you can edit your response:).

Again. the Member who comes closest to the final numbers will be declared the "Winner."

BT

BT great to hear that the motor is progressing forward. Hopefully I can see you car running when you are ready. I will throw my guess into the pot as well. As I am not a motor expert and can just understand the basics of HP gains with big changes this will be a guess, but hopefully proven wrong with your results.

630 HP

725 Torque
