We've all done it, placed car parts in storage only to find rust developed on unpainted surfaces while sitting. Found something that works.

Long-Term Corrosion Inhibitor a specialty product by WD-40 works to protect those areas. If you spray it on areas you're planning on painting, be prepared to do some scrubbing. I put it through it's tests here in rainy Washington on several items and it works.

My concern would be how to remove it completely such that one could apply paint (epoxy?) with good adhesion, avoiding fish-eyes.

depends on how well it really penetrates the metal. Don't think I would want to try it on an important piece, but maybe an experiment is in order here?

Agree that could be a real issue, I only sprayed it on bare metal portions that are normally protected when installed and that I don't intend on painting.

Interesting @ a sealant? on bare metal re: MAACO might help you w/this. Notice that a lot of red mustangs ov their. @ fr6 interior-body and accents to me really depicts a real sports car. I have a lot of pics in my photo album and I think goes over the top in descibing it w/views from all angles on my COTM for Feb s submission. But still do not have the nice interior and red body to touch it off.
