Definetely an "Off Topic" subject, but the Mustang has always a "rock & roll" kind of car anyway, so...

What are your favorite guitar solos? Not necessarily your favorite rock songs, but mainly just the solos.

I'm kind of picky and opinionated about music, and I personally like solos that have a"story"...a beginning, middle and an end, if you will. Not just some fingers-of-fury fret-board attack, but something that adds almost another verse to the song.

These are mine, odd as some may be:

1) My Sharona/ The Knack

2) Cowboy Song/ Thin Lizzy

3) I like To Rock/ April Wine

4) Flirtin' With Disaster/ Molly Hatchet

5) Smokin' InThe Boys Room/ Motley Crue

6) Beat It / Michael Jackson (Eddie Van Halen)

7) Nothin' But a Good Time/ Poison

8) Don't Let Him Go/ REO Speedwagon

9) Memphis/ Lonnie Mack

And of course....

10) Free Bird/Lynryd Skynyrd

Sometimes I (still!) play air-guitar so much my fingers ache...

Oh well, that´s my territory but to puck one spontaneously is hard.

But right now I´d say "Hotel California".

Then there is always Steve Lukather who played some of the best solos ever, either on Toto records or on many other famous records as a session player.

You guys are being too vague. You are just naming great musicians...and every one of those guy is great, no doubt.

I was asking about individual solos you like.

Everything from Eddie or Jimmy is not necessarily equally as favored over the rest of thier work.

If I say "what's your favorite car?" And your answer is "Mustang"...that is too general. Which Mustang? '69 BOSS 429? '75 2.3 Ghia? '87 2.3 LX? BOSS 351?

Those are all Mustangs, but some stand above the rest.

Which guitar SOLOS do you guys think stand above the rest?

I have a lot of favorite guitar solos - too many to list. But the majority of them come from the same bands (guitar players, specifically) - in no certain order:

Van Halen

Scorpions

Bon Jovi

Journey

Queensryche

Poison

Motley Crue

Ratt

Rush

Pink Floyd

Def Leppard

Extreme

Slaughter

Boston

Ozzy

Quiet Riot

Aldo Nova

Joe Satriani

Yngwe Malmsteen

Steve Vai

Whitesnake

Aerosmith

Queen

And I know I've missed a bunch of damn fine music. But, I mostly listen to rock of the "classic" type.

You can't go wrong with Beck and Page. They are the masters of the electric guitar.
