I had a 67 cougar... When I moved to where it snowed 14 yrs ago, I was convinced I needed a 4x4 to be able to get around. Traded it straight across for a pile of crap, brown 84 bronco... That was my big oops... hurts every time I think about it.

Wow ...nice 66 Chebbie!

I was looking through my photobucket. The 65 SS was one of my favorites. The 70 Cougar was intended as the "next in line" and out of the blue the Vert's owner came up to me and said "its for sale"....well the little Cougar became a profit margin, is now owned by a Stripper in Tampa. TRUE....she rolled out a wad of 100's and after paying me.... stuffed what looked to me like mulitple THOUSANDS back in her purse. I wanted to help her haul it home.....but the wifey was giving me these horrible mean looks.:D

Very sharp Chevelle there.

It was so easy to buy a cool car in the 70’s. Besides the ’66 Chevy I had a ’67, ’68 , two ‘69s and three Camaros (not all at the same time).

My first performance car was almost a hopped up ’65 Mustang but the owner wanted $1200 and I would not go over $800. A few months later I heard he took $500 for it.

Just before the original oil embargo I was split between picking up a C3 Vette, a Shelby Mustang and a Series 1 E type. Three grand would buy a nice version of any of those at the time. I went with the Vette.

My very first car! 1965 Ford Galaxie 500! 390 4v, dual exhaust. Sounded like the Bat Mobile when you floored it. 1965 GALAXIE 500.jpg1965 GALAXIE.jpg

Thanks Lux!! It took me 6 years to build it.... PARTS???? OMG...they were horrible to find. The car was stripped and abandoned in Ky.. The guy I got it from like me was also from that area bought it and brought it to Texas. IF that car had a bolt....it was not with it. I searched high and low for parts from all over the country. apparently they were PERFECT for racing. Funny story ...I tracked down the original owner...I was just about to send him a letter and a pic of the car. wifey says "what if the car was stolen?" Needless to say I didn't send the letter and pic! :D

Sicn..... I love those old school custom paint jobs.

They weren’t old school when I sprayed them. :s In the first half of the 70’s I could buy a Vette put on a wild paint job, beat on it for a year then sell it for a profit. By the end of the 70’s the trick was to find one that had a custom paint job on it, spray it a stock color , beat on it for a year then sell it for a profit.

The wild stuff from the first part of the 70’s has a small but loyal group of fans these days. I didn’t care for the late 70’s -80s “graphics”. I did the graphic stuff for others but my cars were in the earlier custom style.

Luke I dont know if could have lasted through it if she paid me in 1's, my tongue was already hurting from standing on it while she paid me in 100's!!! .....and not from the 100's!

4by..... I wouldnt have wanted to keep my "first car" I was poor as dirt and my first car was a POS of the worst. When I went to school i would park it down the road and walk the rest of the way.

This was my 1977 Mercury Cougar, my Parents bought her back in 78' 4 days before the Blizzard of 78' that we had here in new England.

It had a 302 v8, C4 trans a really nice car.

it was my first car I took ownership in 93' and used it as my daily driver till 2000 that's when Rot on the frame took over, 25% of the car still lives in my shed ( I couldn't let her go that easy, I've known her almost my whole life), I watched her go up the conveyor at the Metals recycler and come out in chunks, that was January 2002

OK - I guess I was confused by the thread title. I thought you were asking about other 'Old Cars' (i.e.: classics, antiques, etc.) people have had... not their 'Old Cars' in general.

For me, that would be my '82 Mustang... and I would've gladly kept it, since it would've been well-maintained and been given upgrades over the years:

The other "keeper" would've been my '85 Nissan 4x4 - first truck... loved it!

Then a '78 K5 Blazer I had for only 8 months, until I bought the Jeep:

Sold the Blazer, bought a Jeep... which I still have (Hence the screen name):

Got another '85 Nissan 4x4 King Cab - which I had concurrently with the Jeep... and sold it when I bought my '97 Ram (which I still drive today):

My '71 is the 'oldest' car I've ever owned... and I've never owned a brand new car. The closes thing would be my wife's '01 Grand Prix which we bought in '02. Also haven't had a car payment since 2006. I tend to prefer old (and older) cars... more style (IMHO), and easier to work on. People still give me compliments on my old stuff because it's in such nice shape (despite the fact the Ram's been in desperate need of detailing for WAY too long now).

Love the jeeps and a great set up on the Nissan Really like the 82...where I despise the 74 through 80 Mustangs.... I thought the 82 was headed back in the right direction. My brother had 95 5.0 that the U.S. Marshalls did a little modification on to make it a chase car for him. I felt like those had decent styling as well. I would have bought the blazer!!! We had a 83 Ramcharger that I loved but she caught on fire.

Wow..Imusa...that brings back memories. I was a punk kid just out of jail... started working for Gulf Oil ( a franchise owner) I was on the cutting edge of the transition of "service stations" to convenience stores. the company I went to work for was doing these conversions. I started out as a janitor. I guess somewhere the ole Cougar ( lady) I worked for took a liking to me and figured out I wasnt just a "just out of jail" risk...I had potential. Fast forward she had me running stuff... then managing...then managing multiple stores.... any way she had a white on white on white Thunderbird version of that car. She would stop and pick me up and I would drive her around from Nashville to Birmingham. I thought I was a super STUD!!!!! Ha...thanks for the memories!!

Carter. Cougars, strippers, motorcycles, Hells Angels, jail, street racing and high speed pursuits. Are you really an undercover cop ;) or have you stolen my identity :p

LMAO!!!! YOU'VE summed up my life in a sentence. I've got a neighbor that says the same thing. He wants to know if all the stuff I do is a cover. So I'm not REALLY an undercover cop....but it IS unusual that my brother was a U.S. Marshall, my daughter is a Sheriff's Deputy, Son-in-law is an Lt at the Sheriff's Dept.. and I have multiple friends in the PO...lice business. When my brother signed up to go to the Police department, well I signed up too. And can you BELIEVE they had the audacity to say I passed all the critical knowledge stuff but my personality profile didnt match the profiles they preferred dancebanana . Seems my black and white outlook on situations was not conducive to "open or gray area" treatment of criminals.

We'll just say I've had a lot of experiences and MAYBE I've made an effort to steal your identity :D :D But I disagree that we would hate each other...but I WOULD help you clear a bar after too many beers if you like!!!
