My Car
It's a 1973 Convertible project.
I have a set of motor mounts with deteriorated rubber and am thinking of attempting a DIY from a Nissan enthusiast site. I've read last January's "Motor Mount Rebuild or ??" thread on our site and noticed an option of repair was $225 sending them to http://www.mustangsetc.com/73-mustang-30...-fastback/. There was also a link to a $280 aftermarket option.

Take a look at this site.

Now take a look at the cost of a lb. of this material.

http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=flexane+94&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=31013823085&hvpos=1s4&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17609883486692119011&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_3e9lncbd1f_e

Why couldn't I dig out the remainder of the rubber, clean and paint the mounts, and poor the flexane in the empty cavity?

This is the stats of the flexane: hardness of 97A (Shore D scale) and a tensile strength of 2800 psi.

To do both mounts the total cost would be about $60 with cleaner, paint and flexane.

What do you think?

Mark what year is your car?
I read right past that! It's a '73.

My daughter's Maxima has 250k on it and her front mount is dust. She and I are doing this for her car ThanksGiving weekend. The cheapest I can find her motor mount is $140. Crazy! It has a sensor built in it and only throws a code if it's unplugged. The thing doesn't sense anything other than that.

I have a lot of digging to do to see if I even have them still. I was gonna make Mark help since he was local. :D

I'll take a look this weekend, but my basement is where I hide the fact that I am a bit of a hoarder
Jeff - Thanks!!! All I need is a BASEMENT! :D
