AC not cold

How cold should a stick AC unit that has been converted blow. My compressor runs and it gets cool but not cold. I told my dad it gets one step above letting you sweat. It was 92 and 100% humidity today.

Are you running r12? A 40° evaporator should probably have 50-60° coming from the vents.

+1 if you have a digital thermometer place it in the vent and if your Freon charge is good you should see around 55 degree air with the fan on high.

like john j said you put a thermometer in the vent, put the system on high with re-cycle on and let it blow and see how cold you get you should see the temp in the mid 50s range.
