71 or 72 Mustang in Endurance race

Recommended Posts

Found pic and was looking when I saw what appears to be a 1971 or 1972 Mustang in the race starting grid. I sure looks like a 24 hour endurance series race. If anyone can offer more info - please do.

Hmm, weird!

My first thought was it was a European race because most of the cars seem to be European. I see one 69 Mustang up front but all the others Opel, Ford Capri, Audi Coupes, Ford Escorts, BMWs and lots of Alfa Romeos.

There seems to be a Challenger in the second row.

That Chevy station wagon is weird for a European race. Those were hardly sold here.

Good info there Mark.

Btw, Spa Francorchamps is a little over an hour drive from me. I just passed it yesterday on my way to the transmission shop.

I've done a bit more digging. That picture was from Spa in 1974. It was known as the Inotage Mobel Alvisse Ford Mustang and driven by Nicolas Koob and Aloyse Kridel.

The Mustang retired after the 7th hour with head gasket failure.

Here's a pic of it in the pits, with the hood open.

Yes, as soon as I read your post the names rang a lot of bells at a time.

Alvisse is still a big furniture store. Nicolas Koob was a well known race driver who later started a bus company.

Household Lux names.

Funny, I never knew that they had a Mustang.

BTW, that 69 Mustang up front is driven by Claude Dubois who later made the 1971 Shelby Europas.

I'll see if I can find some info on the whereabouts of that car.

It wasn't the slowest car out there but was over 40 seconds a lap slower than the fastest car. They qualified 35th out of 58 cars. The 69 Mustang was the #1 qualifier but was a DNF :-(

Is it just me... Or was there a 74 torino station wagon behind the Caprice in the first picture?

Dunno  - you tell me. I don't understand the street vehicles in the back of the starting grid.

Almost looks like a Chrysler wagon to me. ? barely but tough to tell.
