Hi John,
I assume your power windows are original factory ones, and you have a deluxe interior. I just recently serviced my factory p/windows in my '73 Mach 1.
The best tool to remove the door card is a door trim remover. The factory clips can be reused over again, providing the shape of them is correct and not distorted. Buying a new set is cheap anyway and a better way to go.Disconnect the other door hardware, and as well, the p/window switch panel. The backing switch plate should slide and notch off the door card. BTW - this process of fixing the window, takes two men to carry out properly.
Next, remove the wax paper protecting membrane gently from the door skin, and store out of the way. If your motor is working OK, then the nylon gears and maybe the roller glide will be to blame. You can buy the nylon gears that work well.To install the new gears and reg roller, you will have to unbolt the regulator arm assembly from the door body, and readjust it when you put back the reg mechanism.
I use Vasoline jelly as a gear lube grease. Drop the reg mech in a vice to install the new gear roller. Pop a new reg roller in the end of the reg arm by a nut and bolt setup. The old one should drill out. Someone will need to hold the window glass when you are removing and replacing the reg mechanism.Make your final adjustments to the glass via the reg mech as it should finally sit correctly in place once wound up.
Finally, reinstall the wax paper, and door card with all hardware back again in place. If this operation is a bit beyond you, then seek out the services of a good Auto Electrician in your area..
