Finally getting to replacing the Harmonic balancer.

I removed the shrowd and fan, and all the belts.

I didn't remove the radiator, trying to avoid a bigger mess.

How is the pulley removed from the front of the balancer?

Is it just one big bolt in the center or is there more?

I am buying the balancer removal tool tomorrow.

Just need to take off the pulley first.

Thanks

Its just one big bolt in the middle , take it out and use a puller to take the balancer of.

That's it.

John

My 73 has 4 small bolts holding the pulley on. Remove the 4 bolts. Just wanted to add. Make sure your HB puller doesn't slip inside the crank bolt hole. It will mess up the threads.

Most pullers have a big enough flat surface so you don't have to worry but something to watch for. Mark

I finally got the pulley off.

Now I am trying to remove the main bolt but the balancer is rotating the crank.

Is this normal?

How is the center bolt removed without spinning the balancer?

I put 2 longer bolts in 2 of the pulley holes(next to each other) stuck a pry bar between the long bolts to hold the HB from turning and used a long handle ratchet on the HB bolt.
Thanks, I'll try that!

The HB Puller came will an additional set of long bolts; they should work!

An impact wrench works great too.

And, the balancer goes back on just as hard as it comes off Do Not beat it back on with a hammer. I use a longer bolt and washers to press it back on until I can get the original bolt started in a few threads.
