Great - there goes the neighborhood.

Look, as much as I like and admire Chip Foose, he's just another one of those high-end car guys that really doesn't know squat about our cars. I envision this one getting slammed with 20s, a weird paint job that looks great from one angle only (and just weird from the others), and maybe even a Coyote dumped in there ahead of a TKO and 4-link rear-end.

Just from that pic alone, it looks like a fairly decent car to start with - too bad it's going to [most likely] get messed up, noticed, and every Chip Foose wanna-be will be demanding $80,000+ for their "diamond plate interiored monstrosities" as well.

Hey I have a couple of project cars he can choose from if he wants to do one or two

Requirements are a Coyote, 6 speed and anything else he wants to do to it :D

On second thought if it's his checkbook he can do what he wants lollerz

Ya... I'm not going to lie, you just described my dream build....

I guess minus the 20's, I think they are a little too big for our wheel wells. 18's maybe 19's tops.

The problem is he has to build the car with what he can get for free. You don't think he pays for any of that stuff. Advertising. I would like to see one of the cars after about a year and see how the skim coat of bondo they slather on looks. I bet the cars are wavy after everything cures out. Anybody can build a modified car but few can do a great restoration.

When I build a car, I build a car. A to Z every little painstaking bit of it, as do most of the guys on this forum. What's it like to have a crew of experts to handle the details of the build? Who does the work ? I see these cars get built in a matter of weeks. It gets a body guy, a paint guy, an interior guy, you know what I mean. I'm not being condescending to chip but I personally bust my azz getting a build done in a year or sometimes 2 . I'm just saying!!! I'd like to know. Does chip do it all himself???

I think he is only used for design and photo ops. Like contracting a builder for a house. The sub contractors do all the work.
Ya that's what I thought , he designs & draws a pic of it. Great imagination but I doubt he has to clean his hands with Brillo at the end of the day. Where's the fun in that?

The fun is when you deposit your profit in the bank.

I see on a regular bases the 64 383 Fury and the 68 C10. I look them over every time and there holding up well.

When I lived out in Orange County a buddy had always dreamed of a 60's Impala, having the funds some celebrity my mate got hooked up with Foose. Went in for a build quote. $100k was the number, he thought that's not too bad. At the end Chip realized he did not already have a car that was going to be an extra $100k! You could buy the nicest Impala in the world for that!

As long as it is that midlife bank then I'm in.

He actually does get in there and do some random things, but he's primarily the creative power, business owner/manager, and the big name reputation provider for the shop/brand that's come from all the past projects and success.

He, like Dave Kindig, Danny Koker, Boyd Coddington, Ring Brothers, etc., started out doing everything on their own, had some success, hired some guys, had more success, reputations were built, businesses expanded, and now they're highly admired and sought-after in the custom car industry.

The biggest difference between Foose and the average guy doing his own projects is scale. We, as DIYers usually don't have the crew, shop, tools, specialists, sponsors, financial liberty, attention, etc., that goes into the projects he turns out. But we also don't have the hassles that come with being a big business with so many microscopes pointed in his direction, either.

Again, I have nothing but respect for Foose and his colleagues - they literally have one of my dream jobs (drawing pictures of cars all day that turn into reality and command hefty prices)... but I'm glad I don't have the headaches and hassles of running a multi-million dollar business as a result - I'd go broke in a hurry because I'd want to keep all the cool cars.

+1 and well said. Plus I tend to like some of his work. Usually very clean lines. I've seen a handful of cars he's done up close and the work is exceptional. Especially the paint and body work.

I agree. His team is hand picked and full of skill. This leaves a skilled designer, with his level of success and fame, time to create and further his brand. One works hard and with passion long enough you get recognized and with that comes the pressures of not just maintaining but further impressing a tough and judgemental crowd. Sometimes you even create a monster you weren't even ready for. My hat goes off to these men. Cool that he's looking at a 71-73. Bout time.
