Body panel holes

Hi everyone,

71' here

I was doing some body work and came across holes in the bottom of the quarters and bottom of the front fenders towards the rear. Looks like 5 or 6 mm holes about 5 inches from the bottom of the panels.? Is this for lower trim moldings?

Any help would be appreciated,

The lower trim is installed at the break line

If your car was equiped with the Decor Group like stated it had narrow side trim at about that point, see pic of 73. Only difference between the years is that the front piece goes between the valance and fender on the 71-72 and below on the 73 to align with the bumper. It is very difficult and expensive to find a complete set in good shape. It does really make the car look much better. It also gave you the black panel between tail lights and Mach 1 style grill.
