yes do it every time.. much easier as a pair then trying to put in tranny in afterwards. i have factory brackets that bolt to exh manifolds so the straps don't get in the way.. but yes put everything together and put in.

I always install engine and transmissions together. To me it is much easier to bolt them together when they are not in the car. I am not the fastest out there but I can usually pull both together in under 2 hours and install them in about an hour and be ready to start bolting up exhaust, driveshaft etc. My trick is to get the car off of the ground a good bit for clearance though I don't have a patent on it.

I followed tips from this site. Put the rear of the car up as high as you can on jack stands. Cover your core support and firewall tunnel with cardboard.

Try watching a factory video of an engine install. It's fascinating to see the severe angle they drop the engine in.

You will find it a bit easier if you pull off the front accessories and the crank pully.

I am not sure what I think about the straps. I have always used chains. Is this something that is commonly done or ? My concern would be a sharp edge cutting into the strap.

It's just hanging by those yellow straps, I'll be using some other shorter loops. Thanks for all the input everybody!

 
Has anyone ever attempted to shove in the engine and transmission as one unit?

May have via my Cleveland specialist however 2 weeks after got the Cleveland overhauled modified from q to r code, per se nad reattaching the toploader, he died, a simple growth operation in his groin, surgeon nicked his femoral artery and bled out 48 hours. Therefore never got the motor blueprinted.http://
