i have a 250 inline six   the lifter is starting to make a loud ticking sound @ idle . i think i have a bad lifter . what do you guys think about just replacing  the lifters and not the cam ?.the engine  has less than 30,000 miles on it  and to replace the lifters i need to remove the head . also i cant seen to find much info on cam and lifter replacement in the manuals for a inline six . any help and opinions   thanks

you could get a cheap harbor freight dial indicator and measure the lift across a few cylinders with a known good lifter. might not be accurate to the tenth, but if the pushrod is wiggling you'll know

i'll assume it's a flat tappet not roller cam ? i don't see a problem with changing lifter on either.. rollers are easier for lack of break in.. flat's, make sure u use a good pre-lub and do the normal break in. if u can do an engine pre-lub (turn oil pump) that would really help too.
