Out of ignorance on my part, why do they offer a range? 3/8 intake 27 to 33. I was checking the intake bolts, something you are supposed to do now and then, and the 3/8 tightened about 20 degrees when set at 30. At 27 it probably would not have moved. Some people don't believe in torque wrenches, on the other hand, I check everything. Have a set of wrenches ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous.

No, most should be tightened in 2 or 3 steps. Something like this is a handy reference, but a shop repair manual should be used for the details, such as this.

 
Be careful with intake manifolds with paper type gaskets, I kept re-torquing my intake until I stopped getting movement, but it caused my gaskets to split on the bottom causing oil to get sucked into my intake ports.
