1973 red convertible 351 4 V
Not sure if I am describing it right. The steering wheel will not come back to center when you release from a turn. Not sure what part as failed. I would like to fix it if the parts are available.

Worn out suspension component(s), such as:

Strut rod bushings

Upper ball joints

Lower ball joints

Upper control arm bushings

Lower control arm bushings

Not as likely, Steering:

Steering box

Idler arm

Tie rod ends.

 
Steering not returning is the front suspension not having enough caster or too much toe out (it should have a little toe in). Loose/worn out steering/suspension components can cause either of those.

It could be a steering box problem but doubtful unless you've overtightened the preload (in other words not worn out, but the opposite), if you haven't messed with it it's doubtful.
