Hard to say. The tranny looks like it might be the short tail variety that'll fit a Mustang. I think I can see the flat pad for the tranny mount. The T-bird long tail had a 45* mount and a really long tail.

Engine does look right to be a Thunderjet. I had a '72 T-brd and the gear on the engine looks earlier vintage than mine, so I'd agree with Don on 68-71.

Get some more pics and casting #'s & dates so we can see what you've really got there.

 
The air cleaner assembly age doesn't appear to match the engine age. The presence of smog equipment, a Ford rebuilt Holley 4180 carb with what appears to be a governor says heavy truck engine to me. It could even be a 370. Chuck
