I tried . . .

Hi All,

well after selling my beloved 72 vert to fund the purchase of a 69 Mach 1, I came into funds again and tried to find another 71-73 in the UK, but prices have gone crazy over here.  They now seem to start from $32,000 for a basic 302 vert to $48,000 for 351C.  And that's with our weak exchange rate at the moment.  That's more than double what we were paying a few years back.  People are really starting to like them over here.

I got close to buying a Q code but you all talked me out of this, see below.  And very little has come along since.

So I bought something that looks kind of similar for the same money. 

A 1970 Dodge Challenger 340 4 barrel.

It doesn't handle as well, but it will do till I find myself a 71-73 some day.

Awesome car! How about more details regarding the drivetrain, and some interior pics. I have had a '71 Mach 1 429 CJ-R 4 speed for a few years now, but I am a fan of old US musclecars in general. I also branched off into Ferrari around a year ago before pricing became out of reach. I began the hobby in the late 1970's with the Pontiac marque ('68 GTO, '79 Trans Am, both 400 / 4 speed) and took it from there, after a "brief" 20 year break for marriage, new home, career, kids, etc. lol Had a good friend with a low mileage '71 Cuda 383 with 4 speed pistol-grip shifter back in the early 1980's. If you were not able to locate a '71 to '73 Mustang in your price range, was the '71 Challenger 340 that much more affordable? I only ask because Mopar pricing is through the roof in the US for prime examples. Yes the 340 will go for less than a 440 big block model, but it's still a high-performance engine in that lineup. You must be doing pretty well in general to have a single home with two-car garage and two US musclecars over there in the UK. Just an observation and it's great of course. I'm in PA in the states, and I have a cousin who has lived in the UK 20+ years, got married over there, and I believe they are in apartments for life! Cost of living is pretty brutal over there from what I understand. Again, congrats on the great looking Challenger!

It's the A66 which is basically an R/T with a small block engine and an auto.  Drives nicely but no power steering a drums all around.  The Mustang drives a load better.

I love my Mustangs but one of my favorite car shows is Graveyard Carz even though it's an ALL Mopar show.

Very nice find. If it isn't a Mustang or other Ford muscle car, then Mopar would be my 2nd, go-to car brand. I too love the A body cars.

On the bright side of this purchase, at least it ain't a freakin Chevy!!
