1965 Mustang

Hi Guys, I am starting the restoration of a 1965 mustang coupé and my goal is to restore it as original as possible. Since I am sure most of you own more than one mustang and probably from the early years, is there a forum for 65-66 mustangs as good as this one? The amount of info that I get from this forum in huge! Can you recommend another source of info like this forum?

concoursmustang.com deals with pure concours restorations, and has amazing resources/libraries on-line. Vintage-Mustang forums are another site that is quite heavily trafficed, but has variable levels of advice.

You will have a much easier job doing a 65 way more stuff available for them. I would caution you that just like the 71 - 73 a 6 cylinder is a money pit and will never sell for much no matter how good it is.

I have two 65 verts one A code 4 speed, metallic green and C code automatic, metallic burgandy. I have the removable hard tops for both. I also have a 65 A code three speed coupe but I have never wanted to do anything with it I use parts off of it.

I do have some very early sheet metal for 64 1/2.

Never done a parts count but I would say a 65 has half as many parts as a 71 - 73. Under hood is much neater.

There are also groups on facebook dealing with about any car made. Google will turn up them all.

Rod, there is a lot of knowledge and experience here. As you have already acknowledged, you can learn a ton from the forums here. Just as midlife has posted there are Forums you can visit/join to see if you can find the info you desire, such as http://www.concoursmustang.com/ or https://www.vintage-mustang.com/. If you are a member of the Mustang Club of America (MCA) you can visit that site as they have Mustangs grouped by generation years.

Although this is a site dedicated to the 71-73 Mustangs, I bet if you were to ask some 65-66 questions, you would be surprised at the quality answers you would receive. In my family alone we have owned almost every year Mustang produced from every generation from 1966 through 2018! And there are many members here who can say the same thing. Since you are a 71-73 owner and a member here, I feel that entitles you to at least give it a try here to see if you get the info you are looking for! If you feel you need to verify the info you received or want just "Look" around, then you can check the other listed sites.

Another plus as David has noted is the total abundance of 65-70 parts. If you got the $$$, someone out "There" has the parts!

Thank you, midlif/David. I have visited both forums for info and they do have lots of info! Mine is a honey gold C code automatic with pony interior. My 71 will always be my favorite and spoiled one. I know they are a money pit but I don’t do it to sell them, I just enjoy working on them and enjoy the rides! I don’t think I could enjoy it so much if I were thinking of the cost of building and the profit of reselling them! But I get your point…. if you are going to pour lots of money into a car…it better be a V8 jajaj

I have noticed that, there are tons of parts for a 65. Less time looking for parts and more time working and enjoying the car. I also bought a 1990 mustang LX 5.0 at the beginning of 2017 and took me just a year to get it to a nice condition, you can find lots of parts for cheap.

Thanks Steve! For sure I will be consulting here for advice in the restoration and of my 65. Wasn’t sure if it was Ok being a 71-73 forum… that maybe I should look for a early years mustang forum. But you are right, I will squeeze some more info out of the forum! ?
