I am in the process of installing the missing hood lock brackets on my '72 vert. I am curious about the factory appearance, was the metal painted or left shiny? Not planning on being concourse, but would like to be somewhat close. Thanks.

They should be phosphate coated, same as hood hinges, hood lock, shock tower caps and coil bracket. Check out the 429 megasite.com and there’s all kinds of great info about original paint and everything else.

I would have to disagree on the phosphate.

My original is zinc with clear chromate dip not the gold.

I also have a Osborne chassis detail manual. Will look in there. It tells all coatings for every bolt and nut and it does not match all times. I have 4 sets of hood locks and all are zinc. The phosphate was used on components that have wear and need lubricity.

Here is picture of mine on the car I will be going over them with steel wool to clean up.
