After chasing a wiring problem with the alternator light, I came to this large bulb type plug on the end of the harness which feeds various sensors.  The large bulb type plug was disconnected when we received the vehicle several years ago.  Attached is the photograph of the bulb type plug on the left with the main power source plug disconnected at the fire wall on the right.

if any one knows what this plug on the left goes to, it is appreciatedhttps://ibb.co/GCFdX5k.[/URL]

Thanks,

Dan

I believe that is a socket for the carb anti-stall circuit and not a bulb socket.

Anti dieseling solenoid power wire, red w/yellow hash marks. Should be have power with the key in run.

Idle speed was set by adjusting the solenoid with it energized. You would then pull the plug and do a second idle speed setting with the idle speed screw on the carb. The purpose was to prevent "run on" or "dieseling", as it would snap the throttle shut when the key was turned to off.

Many mistake it for an A/C throttle positioner to increase idle speed with the A/C on.

Great picture I snagged from RC92234's thread

Ahh...that explains why it is just hanging and confirms MidLife's thoughts.... The prior owner swapped out the 2 barrel for Carter 4 barrel.

We're taking the Carter off and the manifold anyways and replacing them with a Street Avenger and Edelbrock, so I'll coil the wire up and attach it to the firewall.

Thanks again.

reParkka,

Hemikiller may be trying to send you a subliminal message with the picture he posted.

that is called a anti=diesel solenoid for a reason, they really work !.

With the pic of the carb you posted, you may very well need to use one.

I don't remember any more if the ford bracket will work on the holley without modification, but holley makes a bracket for this purpose, as well as the solenoid too.

I bought my last solenoid from rock auto for uber cheap , if you have a local salvage yard they will be next to nothing, I have bundled and saved by adding these with other items.

Would hazard to guess that I have installed at least a dozen or so of these on hot rods over the years to cure engine run on, especially if you have to keep an idle at or over 1000 rpms and are past the idle transfer slots.

Nothing worse than seeing someone with a manual trans, having to stall the engine out by letting the clutch out in gear, oh wait , I forgot about the dudes with automatics.
