My Car
1971 mustang convertible
A friend of mine that has a transmission shop is rebuilding my C4 tranny and we are getting different info on the correct modulator valve.

Could someone tell me what is the correct modulator valve for 1971 mustang with C4 behind a 302.

The color codes are simply to indicate the setting of the modulator adjustment. In an aftermarket application, you'd probably adjust it to suit your taste anyway, so stripe color is somewhat irrelevant.

Everything I have shows the white and green stripe units are interchangeable, but here's the NAPA listing for a green stripe unit.

Get one that is adjustable.  It will allow you to tune in your shift points and give you better performance.  You can buy almost anywhere.  Here is a link to Summit Racing and the one that they carry for a C4. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/atp-fx102
All single vacuum modulators are adjustable.

This is why I love the - 7173 mustangs.com. It can be a wealth of information.

Thanks for the great responses.

Howdy,

I recently rebuilt my fmx tranny and will need a new modulator as well. I didnt know they made a adjustable one. Is that c4 unit also good for the fmx?

Thank you

I would use one listed for that tranny.  You could get the following  https://www.summitracing.com/parts/frm-fm2306/applications or check your local parts store for one.   Also as Hemikiller stated all single aftermarket ones are adjustable.

FMX unit is different. Rock Auto lists a bunch of options, all of which should be adjustable, or grab the one that Kilgon linked to at Summit.
