Any reason for a ground wire to the bottom of the carb?

Recommended Posts

My car has a Holley carb and a Mallory dizzy, there is a wire that is grounded to the carb, would there be any reason the ground should be on the carb?   If not I will move it to a less visible area, will post a picture of it later.

Possibly a ground for an electric choke.

Nope

It is with the group of wires running to the Mallory dizzy.  I have no problem grounding somewhere else just wondering if on the carb for any reason other then it was convenient

The carb is a terrible place for a ground, because it can be insulated from the block by the phenolic spacer, having then to rely upon the nuts/bolt that hold it in place.

Let me check your shorts!

I am assuming it is a ground, cannot imagine any other purpose (wire is brown)

I will take a pic of it tomorrow.  If you recall my pony has several wires that are not the norm.

Yes, the Mallory distributor ground is brown, and the instructions state is should be grounded to the engine.

That sounds like it, think under the coil bracket hold down screw should be ok.
