Does anybody know if they ever made a 'remote' control for the passenger-side mirror (the cable system like on the driver-side mirror)?

I see that most reproduction door panels seem to either have punch-outs on both sides for window cranks as well as mirror 'remote' cables, or they are just photo-shop copies of the driver-side door panel for the ad?

As well, does anybody know of any power mirror options?

there was never a power mirror option for the mustang.

the passenger side mirror was also never remote controlled. i looked into that about 5 years ago because i was sure i had seen a picture that showed a passenger racing mirror with a remote.

turned out it was a mirror image photograph for a catalog.

it might be possible to "hack" a passenger remote mirror together however from the factory ford didn't make one.

Really annoying if you think about it, if anything the driver's side should of been manual and the passenger side remote controlled

since its harder to deal with when driving the car.

Ford did make a cable operated passenger side racing mirror... It was optional on Cougars. A passenger side power seat was also available on Cougars. Ford only put power seats on the drivers side in Mustangs. A buddy of mine installed both options on his 72 Mach back in the 80's. I would imagine they are hard to find these days.

I know, right?! My sentiments exactly.

I think I'll just try and come up with some kind of solution - I'm thinking power mirrors are in my future... somehow.

Thanks for the input, guys!

I used to have a cable operated passenger side remote mirror in mine. I took it off of a '70s Tbird, if I remember correctly. It wasn't exactly the same mirror, but you had to really look closely to tell the difference, since I traded out the base with a mustang base. Eventually, I ended up putting the original back on, when I got the car painted.

Has anyone modified to larger modern mirrors? It would sure be nice to have alittle more visibility on the sides since there is none from the rear.

That's kinda what I'm looking for. I might look into the '70s Cougar/T-Bird mirrors... maybe even the Mustang II, Mavericks, and Pintos - if nothing just for the internals to make them work within the Mustang racing mirror shells.

As far as aftermarket or larger late-model mirrors - hadn't even really considered that. I'm currently in the process of replacing the electric remote mirrors on my Mom's '97 T-Bird - so I might look at the actuators and internals that come out of the old units.

And looking at the Mach 1's racing mirrors, I'm wondering if there weren't some older 'Vettes, Camaros, or Firebirds that might have been power mirror equipped. If so, those mirrors are quite similar in shape as well and might actually work (if not for the internals, possibly a complete swap or something).

I added a remote to my car. Look for a late 70's cougar with the sport mirrors. Take your original base and drill out a hole large enough for the cable. Take the cougar mirror and carefully disassemble the 3 cables at the control knob. Reassemble after you slide the cable through the original base. Drill a hole under the dash on the right side of the driver and file fit the hole to match the control knob.

I been thinking about this for a while. Couldn't You have someone cut an (objects are closer than appear) mirror to fit the 71-73? That would give you quite a bit more visability. MB
I made a similar recommendation on another site a few months back. You could probably go to a junk yard and get the mirror off an suv that could be cut down to size to fit the racing mirror.

A guy on Pro Touring did install the convex mirror on his stock Mustang housing. I was driving my son's Intrepid the other day and the thought occurred to me his powered mirrors are not much bigger than the Mustangs and the housings are not as deep. Could the power mechanisms fit in there? Hmmmm... sounds like a winter indoors project.

More than likely it was from an escort. I researched all of this years ago. If you want remote and want it to look original, look for the late 70's Cougar. I've added it to my Mach 1 and Vert. Works nice. Still can't see out of the Mach 1 though. Just make sure you are accelerating faster than everyone else when changing lanes.

I just read something over at Vintage Mustangs Forums talking about using early-model Mazda RX-7 power mirrors (since they are pretty much the same size and shape of the Sport Mirrors).

Hmmmm...
