Once a year, they block off a few of the streets in town, set up a decent tree with decent starter, and hold two days of 1/16 mile street drags. Here's a very short sample of what we call "street drags" in Winnemucca, Nevada.

The near lane is a '55 Chevy and the far lane is "the fastest all-metal-bodied '49 Ford in the world". Sorry I missed the times and speeds - I know the Ford won, and if I remember right, it was in the 4s at just over 100 mph???

The promoters tout it as the last legal street drags in the U.S. It might be true. Anyway, it's a ton of fun to watch, and I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be posting a video of me next year.

looks like fun but 1/16 is kind of a quick run! I wonder how my FSJ cherokee would do if I put the TC in low... ;)

I know what you mean. I'm thinking RT would be even more important with this short track. That, and shifts. Or maybe just shift. :)

I know nothing about bonafide drags - all I know is what I learned as a kid in rural Montana, where every town had a 1/4 mile stretch painted somewhere outside of town on the straightest piece of road available.

Erie was East 12th street. Railrod tracks to Carpettown 1/4 mile dead on. 4 lanes no waiting (after midnight of course) :P

Doc,

Now that is what I am talking about!!

I guess we gotta get you some real deep gears for that 1/16 of a mile when you get the Convertible done. Maybe have a spare punkin set up with something like a 4.57 or a 4.88 gear.

We will figure it out when the time comes:)

Thats pretty cool, I guess you can't get into a whole lot of trouble in 1/16th of a mile. Probably dont even come out of second gear or third gear!

You're right, Mike. Maybe one shift and it's over. Kinda fun nevertheless. :)
