The cat whiskers I bought are that little also. No where near like the originals.

I bought a complete kit from laurel mountain mustang and it was great and sealed really nice. Pretty easy to install to when i had it all apart to paint .

Did it have the small exterior seal?

I have not seen a repo matching the original. All I found were the small exterior seal. Yes they work great but they are no where close to the originals as far as looks goes.

Gotcha. Good to know.

thanks guys well as long as they work im happy with that, just makes you wonder why ford made them so big in the first place?, did anyone find that they rattle more after fitting the new rubber? might be a problem when window is down on rough roads?

I bought mine from Ohio mustang and they matched the original pretty much exactly, right down to the staples. However the cowl the hood weatherstrip is too skinny and much smaller than the original. In fact I have contacted all of the mustang stores and to date I have not found a cowl to hood weatherstrip thats like the original.

I imagine Ford made them that big to keep them from bending on the window. My repo's tend to bend and don't fit the door good except right where the clips are.

Ford used a smaller upper seal on the outside of the door glass to wipe the water off and to keep dirt out of the window slot. To stabilize the door glass from the outside, the second, lower felt strip was used. Guide load was applied by the inner door glass guides. It was the outer guide for the glass and took the load away from the upper seal strip. If it wasn't there, the load would go directly on the upper strip, pressing the glass against it and reducing its life.

I haven't yet seen a seal set that included the lower seal strip. The only dealer listing them in the catalog is NPD.

My original ones on a 72 model were about 3 inches in height. Only one big one on the outside. The new ones are about 1.5 inches in height.

I bought the well know yellow kinda large box of weatherstrip kit for my 72... From NPD as for me is the only supplier available for shipping costs and that stuff...

The repros are horrible as i expected... The exterior weatherstrips have nothing to do against the original, even if the originals tell 40 years of stories... Although, the inner ones are not that far from the originals in quality and shape...

Bottom line, you can make the new ones fit... but we are talking about a "fit"... not a perfect match and not even close... I think if your´re looking for functionality, these chinnese strips will work, however if you´re restoring your car as a classic example, my advise is to keep the old strips untill you can have access to a much closeto original replicas... This is what i ended up doing...

Hope it helps!

The repro is made like the ones on early 71's

Small upper with small secondary one below it.

Ford changed to the wide version and there is no repro for it
