Is anyone using any of the Summit rear disk brake conversion kits? If so, which kit are you using, and how was the quality?

FYI - I'm looking at this particular kit with the 10.5 rotors.

Open to any/all suggestions recommendations.

I went with this

http://www.streetortrack.com/Cobra-rear-bracket-kit-for-8-or-9-small-big-Torino-bearing-8.8-rear-ends-pr-24456.html

I was able to buy the cobra rear calipers pretty cheap from rock auto then sourced the rotors & ceramic pads on ebay..Another member here(xoliex) also did this same exact conversion using a parts list I supplied him..I believe he posted up a thread on how the system works. Much better setup & only a few bucks more.

What ever you decide on, make sure it is compatible with the wheels you will use and has a parking brake function. Chuck

I didn't do the summit kit because they use special made rotors and when u need replacements you are getting special made rotors made again.

The cobra kit is great but it says it requires a 16 wheel!! However my RA e slicks are 15s. I did alot of fitment? I used 15x10 with a 5.5 bs. I had to grind a little bit at the banjo bolt head. If I did it again I'd get a 15x8/9 with a 5 bs.

Do a search on my name and you'll find some stuff on my swap!!!

I went with this:

http://www.mpbrakes.com/products/list.cfm?make=ford&model=mustang&year=1972&product=188

It came with the rear parking brake setup, I found the initial setup a little bit of a pain as Ive never adjusted this type of brake.

For the fronts I switched the fronts over with factory spindles after buying a bogus front conversion kit of off ebay. Bought crossed drilled rotors that matched the rears. New power booster from RockAuto and the power pedal from ebay.
When you put the power brake in did you just need the pedal?? or did you need to swap the whole underdash bracket??

Yes it was the whole bracket and it was a PITA to do. If my memory is right I think I had to drill a couple of holes for it to work through the firewall to line up. I had the non power drums on the car and replaced everything with power components. I thought I had pictures from the firewall but cannot find them.

I used the summit conversion on mine (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-bk1327-99904). It was fairly easy. I did however install it with the rearend out of the car. The only difficult parts where pressing in new studs on the axles and getting the proper length on the parking brake.

Now with a proportioning valve in the rear my car stops on a dime. For half the price of most kits I would say I definitely got my moneys worth.

If anyone is running an 8inch rearend and wants to upgrade to disc brakes and a little more strength you can always look into swapping in an 8.8 out of an explorer. Thats what i did with mine and got the gears i wanted 3.73 with posi, and disc brakes all in one swap for cheap. Just a little heads up.

That looks nice! I plan on using their front coilover setup.

Random fact #11394: If you need to get part #'s for the 5 lug 5.0 brake parts do a search for the Ford Racing M-2300-K instructions pdf. The first few pages have all of the Ford part #'s.
