71 coupe

Recommended Posts

I was given a 71 mustang as a Christmas gift last year by my wife's uncle. My wife only allows one project car at a time, so a 82 fox body I had been working on for a year had to go. At first I was actually pretty bummed because I was halfway through restoring the fox body. But you can say the 71 has grown on me. I love the lines and how it is different than the cookie cutter 64-70 mustangs roaming the streets.

I'm drawing most of my inspiration from the 'Pegasus' mustang created by Goolsby Customs. This car is absolutely amazing, and if you haven't seen, I would suggest googling it.

I'm pretty sure the car was parked in a lake for several years because RUST has overrun the underside. I have spent the past year just doing sheet metal work - I'll post some pictures when I get home today.

::welcome:: from CT! I too have a '71 coupe, I've had an '88 GT and currently drive a '00 GT everyday. The '71 has always been my favorite, so good choice on dumping the fox :) you can check out a ton of pics of mine at http://callahandesigns.weebly.com if you'd like. You've come to the right place, it's a great bunch of guys here willing to help in any way we can, and we pride ourselves in not judging others ideas for their projects.

  • 5 weeks later...

I took a few pics of my work so far. Sorry for the quality...Blackberry just can't get anything right.

Here is my firewall. I've started to clean up the engine compartment. The plan is to smooth out everything.

The usual cowl repair...Like many of our cars, my cowl was rusted completely out on both sides. This is a picture of the cowl before I welded the cowl/firewall brace back in.
