I think they were available in 73 with the decor group on convertibles and coupes.

I like the 73 stripes because they were a one year thing and I'm always a sucker for the disliked or overlooked.

I like the hockey sticks better too and will probably go with them when I get my 73 painted! Would also like to get them painted on and not the decals!

Hockey Sticks...no comparison.

Look at this wicked Mustang courtesy of jorgem2:

Interesting - anyone have documentation on that thought?
Here is a page from the 73 mustang sales brochure showing the hockey stripes were available.

Mach 1 info from Wikipedia …

In 1973, the Front end was changed to fit new bumper standards, and a new Mach 1 grille was made. In 1973, all Mustang models had the sportlamps changed to a vertical orientation at each end of the grill, and these lamps served double duty as the parking lamps also. This was necessary since the new-for-73 front bumper was larger and effectively blocked the view underneath the bumper, the previous location of the parking lamps. The Mach 1 graphics were also updated to a simpler, yet bolder design, which was necessitated by the change in the front bumper. Engine options remained the same. One of the most recognizable as well as popular features of the 71-73 Mach 1 is from this era, the 'NASA hood' featuring two NACA scoops. The standard version featured block-off plates in the scoops, so it was a visual, non-functional item. However, they could be made fully functional on models ordered with the 'ram-air' option. This included vacuum controlled 'flappers' at each scoop, and a huge fiberglass underhood 'plenum' that directed cool, outside air into the carburetor for increased performance. The ram-air option included a two-tone hood paint treatment in either 'matte black' or 'argent' (matte silver), coordinated to the color of the Mach 1 decal and striping. In addition, all ram-air equipped Mustangs of this generation came equipped with big twist-style chrome-plated hood lock pins.

I like them better myself and have been considering removing my 73 stripes and going with the hockey stripes, or possibly going to Boss 351 logos, black paint on rockers and Boss 351 hood paint. Even thought about having my hood and fender trim stripped and chrome plated.

If it isn't concours, I think you can do what you want. Not everyone will appreciate the changes, but most folks don't know diddly

I also think the C stripe is outstanding as well...completely non stock of course...

Here is a page from the 73 mustang sales brochure showing the hockey stripes were available.
Completely missed that pic when I looked through the brochure on the link I posted.

Notice with the use of Bright Headlight Trim Rings with the Decor group Mach 1 grille, as opposed to the blacked out Mach 1 ones.

Not to be a wet blanket, but to be careful here, just because there was a SALES BROCHURE does not mean such an option/color scheme was actually delivered.

The same holds true for all the service manuals and spec books that I have. Just because there is information printed in the books, doesn't mean that it is correct.

By the same token, an exclusion does not mean it every happened.

However, if I have a choice, I would believe the printed documentation until I discover otherwise. That is why owners/finders of ORIGINAL Mustangs should take tons of pictures. I know there is the MCA rule book, but who has access to one of those?
