Multiple Mustangs!
Our design of Mustang has reached it's 50th. ANN. for the 1971 model. Something took place in my life just past 50 years ago.
I was one of those that would get up at 6:30 shower, shave and head off to work. If I had a date that evening I would shower and shave again. What a pain to shave so much. Razors were not that great then.
My mom was different than most and she suggested that I grow my hair and beard out that the gals loved it, lol. Also my church needed someone to play a part in a Christmas play the had a beard. So I quit shaving. Was a little itchy for a week or so but I have not shaved in over 50 years. Now the fad is to have a beard. My beard got so long that I had to tuck it inside my jacket when riding my motorcycle to keep it out of my eyes, lol. My hair was below my shoulders and I looked like some kind of rock star, lol. Mom was right the gals loved it.
So if I were to shave I probably would not know myself. My son has never seen me without a beard. I do not have any pics of me back then that i can post but here is one two years ago at the Mustang Owner's Museum opening. My Mach 1 behind me.
How many other members have had a beard that long or have one today? Have never gained any weight just the beard.
I did not buy a 1971 Mustang I bought a 1971 Maverick Grabber, Grabber Green. When I heard the Mustang was changing for 1974 I did order my 1973. I was a tool & die maker so pretty good pay back then. You financed a car for 12 - 18 months. What a change today. You could have bought three new homes back then for what a new Shelby costs today.

Well, it's getting off subject a bit, but in 1971, I was a commercial deep sea diver working out of  Stavanger, Norway. Most of the divers I worked with, had some sort of facial hair even tough it wasn't a good idea with the type of gear we used. Long story short, I started to grow a beard and had it for 21 years. So in 1992, I was getting tired of it and I always said," as soon as I see grey hair, it's gone". I did and it was gone. My then fiance's daughter had the shock of her life when she saw me without the beard and couldn't wait to tell her Mom. Shocks all around, but I've never regrown it since although I did go without shaving for about a week recently, then got told to "go shave!!"

Picture; 1982 " The Great White Hunter!" Now, no hair, no beard.

Good shot, hitting that small mouse with that rifle.  You da man!

I starting growing a mustache back in 73 and went to full beard in 75.  I have had my beard for 45 years with a 5 year gap between 89 to 94 when I had to shave it because of the job I had at that time.  Other than that it has only been off for a week due to having some skin cancer removed.  My 71 is coming up on it's 50th birthday on Jan. 11.  As far as weight - well lets say I would fill out that extra belt you have hanging out.   :whistling:
