My Car
1973 Mustang Convertible.
Restoring and fixing as I go.
Was finishing up an oil change and I was able to wiggle underneath and lo and behold discovered why my Emergency break pedal was not returning.
took a pic of the the passenger side undercarriage.

Understand a little on how the parking brakes work . But not sure how the brake cable gets routed and is it different in a convertible which I have?
Looked at a few of the threads but the routing looks different or was this a few bar from the PO.20211231_151617.jpg20211231_151806.jpg20211231_152145.jpg

Oh and this little bracket fell off in my hands as I was feeling underneath, where does it go ?

That is the bracket that the long cable from the right rear wheel routes through. I just replaced the parking brake cables on my 73 Mach 1 a few weeks ago. There is a longer cable that goes to the passenger side rear wheel. It is routed towards the front, through that bracket, over to the cable bracket that comes from the parking brake pedal through the floor pan, then towards the.drivers rear side to the retaining bracket on the rail. Then the shorter of the two cables connects to that same retaining bracket and is routed to the drivers side rear wheel. The hardest parts of the replacement is getting the old cables out of the drum area and getting enough "slack" on them to get them both connected to the retaining bracket. I connected the shorter cable end to the retainer and then used a set of vice grips on the other one to get leverage to pull the long cable enough to slip it into the retainer. Good luck.

I think that the convertible parking brake cables are the same and the routing is the same, but do not quote me on that. I believe that they are just partially hidden by the convertible bracing, they just go under the convertible bracing, but everything is the same. Here is a good thread on it:

This may help... Undercarriage pictures of my 1973 Convertible. You should have a bracket welded to the underside of the passenger floor. Thats where that hook you have connects the cable to the bracket. As you can see in the pictures, on a vert the cable runs thru the convertible seat pan reinforcement panels. Coupes and fastbacks do not have these panels.20210815_082254.jpg20210911_003126.jpg

Hmm, you have a little dirt on that left front tire. 😁 Beautiful work, Rich.
