Restored 1973 Mach 1 351C auto converted to RHD (Australlia). Pretty much in stock condition.
Hello, just joined from down under (Australia). I have a 1973 red Mach 1 with auto transmission and 351 Cleveland. It has been converted to RHD. I bought it as a pretty down unit and progressively rebuilt it over about 5 years. I have so far spent 3 times the purchase price on it . I have kept things stock, including ride height to handle the roads and traffic "calming" that abounds here. Seriously, some of our secondary roads are asphalt goat tracks. The only changes are Recaro buckets and a Momo steering wheel. I'd like to get more power out of it along with better brakes and so on, but parts and accessories are expensive here. Stock is OK in any case, it is not a race car. I look forward to being part of the forum as there is not a lot of information and support for the 71-73 Mustangs: not as popular, I suppose.

Thank you for all the welcomes from other 71/73 owners. Great to have you to talk to and you have some very nice rides.
I have attached some more photos of the car along with some before and afters. This was originally a light bright yellow car with a really bad red paint job - everything red. Looks wierd to you USA guys with the steering wheel on the "wrong" side doesn't it? The interior was completely covered in sheepskins. Fortunately the only rust was at the top of the back window and around a tail light. The paint on it was like asphalt so we had to use paint stripper for parts of it.
Someone mentioned a chrome front bumper. I thought these were all fitted with the 5mph fiberglass versions.

Wow, you had a very special and heavy project to start with... You managed it very well, the final result is awesome! Congratulations and have fun! Nice fotoshoot in front of the painted wall!
And you are right: all 73 Mustangs came with the rubber bumper and never had any chrome to it. The same on the front hood and fender extensions. If you have seen one it was converted with 71/72 parts...
 
I would add to Timachrome's post that Mach 1s of any of the 71-73 years did not come with the front chrome bumper, although some restorations added one. 71-73 Mach 1s did have a rear chrome bumber.

Why on Earth did you change the interior? I love the faux wool seat and quarter covers ! ;)

Mike, who said anything about faux? This was real sheepskin. I think they found a beige Tyrannosaurus Sheep and ripped its skin off, pulled it inside out and stuck it in the car. Even the headlining was sheepskin (sagging). My dog is currently sleeping on it and she is very happy. The whole car including bright work was painted some sort of red with gold horse stickers running down the side, a white steering wheel and the ugliest alloy wheels on earth. There seems to be no accounting for taste. The car was originally Light Bright Yellow (whatever that is) with Cinnamon and White interior. I can't help but think that red on black is a better color scheme. Cheers, Roger
 
Talking about sheepskin seat covers, I just watched an episode of a Oz program called Outback Car Hunters. In this episode, they found and bought a 1970's (I think it was) BMW that is a very rare car in Oz. The refreshed it with body work and paint. On the inside, they decided to make it "typically Australian" and had custom seat covers made from, you guessed it, sheep skin. Whatever floats your boat I guess.
