Welcome! It sounds like you have a fun project on your hands...

Where in NY state are you from? Lynda and I are in the Pittsford area (suburb of Rochester). We have 3 vintage pony cars, a 1969 Shelby GT500, a 1973 Mustang Convertible, and a 1973 Mach1. We have a few other pony/sports/muscle cars also.

If you happen to be in our area, and in need of help, I may be able to help you out. We have some old school test equipment, a Sun Oscilloscope used to "look at" and diagnose primary and secondary ignition system performance, and a Sun VAT-40 used to test and diagnose Charging, Starting, and Battery performance. We also have a lot of electrical, emission control vacuum, and other manuals and notes for First Generation Mustangs (and Shelbys). Even if you are not from our neck of the woods, I may still be able to help you with questions that may pop up. And you will find a lot of folks in this group who are also willing to lend their expertise to others with questions or concerns. I am continually amazed at the collective information we have with these old school pony cars.

Our other two speciality cars are a 1997 Honda Del Sol SI, and a 2020 Shelby GT500. We do have our fun during Car Season!

Hello and welcome from Colorado. It looks like you have a nice start. Building these cars is a passion. Looks great so far. I would love to see more as it progresses.

Welcome from Connecticut

Hello all. New here. I’m in NY and building a 71 Mach 1, 429 Ram Air, C6. Half way done with putting it together. Look forward to getting all the help I can!

Welcome! And re: asking for help, well Bring It On! I have seem a lot of great answers from our fellow enthusiast in this forum. And I pitch in once in a while also.

Lynda and I are in NY state also, just outside Rochester (Pittsford/Henrietta area). What part of NY are you from?

If ever you need documentation for electrical wiring, vacuum line schematics, emission control systems, etc., I am happy to provide snippets and files as needed. My main Go To web site for documentation in PDF file form is Forel Publications. I will provide a link below. But, sadly the electrical schematics are not that great until their 1972 colorized wiring schematic document. The 1971 version is not bad, but in 1972 and especially 1973 they get into more detail re: connectors and splices, as well as better schematic layouts in general. That said, there are not a lot of significant differences between 1971 and 1972/1973. The biggest differences I have seen are the addition of a carburetor Throttle Position Solenoid not included in 1971, and some electrical components for the emission control system on some engine calibrations.

As for the engine vacuum line calibrations, it is not until 1973 in their Shop Manual (Volume 6) that they get serious about publishing emission control and vacuum line schematics. But, as with the 1973 electrical system vs 71 & 72, the 1973 emission control system info in the Shop Manual's Volume 6 is largely applicable to 1971 & 1972 as well. In addition, The Mustang Barn had produced, and shared for free, the Ford vacuum line calibration schematics they produced. I grabbed their files (one file per calibration), and with their knowledge and approval I assembled their info into a single file grouped by year, and sorted by engine. I will attach that file to this post. Feel free to share that file and contained info with anyone you choose on a no fee basis. Here is the address for Forel Publications in case you want to acquire some of the manuals. They are very reasonably priced. It may be worth getting both the 1971 and 1973 versions of the Shop Manual and Colorized Electrical Schematics just to get the more complete info in 1973 for the emission control in Volume 6 of the 1973 Shop Manual, and the greater detail of the electrical schematics in the 1973 electrical manual.

I look forward to seeing your upcoming progress photos and questions.
