I’m looking for the part that comes thru the hole in the side of the air filter. If I remember correctly it has a small filter on the inside and a hose connection that comes thru the small hole and is held in place with a clip . I believe it has a hose that would run from it to the canister mounted on the passenger side of the firewall. I’m not a mechanic so I’m not sure of the names of this part but I’m pretty sure it is part of the vacuum system. Can someone tell me where to find this part thanks !

Edit: I should look at things more carefully...I think there may be two possibilities here. There are two hoses like what you describe. One goes from the PCV valve in the valve cover oil fill cap to the aircleaner and the piece inside is a plastic holder 3-4 inches long with a gauze type filter in it. You can barely see the blue canister peeking out. The hose coming from it goes under/behind the aircleaner? The other black hose on that side does not appear to to the blue canister? Or does the canister perform two functions: vacuum reserve/Evap emissions?10614894-1973-ford-mustang-mach-1-std-e1515987083768-1024x572.jpg

I need the hose that comes off the snorkel and hooks to the plastic piece coming up towards the snorkel. And the other piece I need is the one that comes out of the air filter. It looks like that hose that comes out of the air cleaner a couple of inches behind the snorkel. My air filter canister has the hole and if I remember right there is a small filter mounted to the side of the air filter canister and a plastic piece that comes thru that hole which is held on by a push on clamp. The hose that crosses over the support that goes from the fire wall to the shock tower hooks on the plastic piece that comes out of the air filter canister. Sorry if I’m not clearly describing what I need but if you do know any idea where I can pick up those parts

The blue cannister is for containing fuel vapors from the gas tank, only. It is connected to the air cleaner housing so the fuel vapors are drawn out of it and burned. The other hose, which is connected to the fiber filter, supplies filtered air to the crankcase when the PCV system is pulling vapors out of the other side of the engine and into the intake manifold to be burned.

I’ll have to look to see where my pvc valve is hooked up because I’m not sure if that whole system is hooked up right. The car runs fine I was trying to replace a hose I was missing. I know something is missing if my memory serves me right. I had a 73 Mach 1 30 some years ago and I remembered the hose from then. It makes sense what your saying because of the small filter on the inside of the air cleaner canister. The blue canister near the fire wall has a hose going in and the 2nd stack on it looks like it needs a hose or a cap it’s open now. I wasn’t sure what that canister was for. Having that hooked up would that give me better gas mileage or should I go by the old saying if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Thanks for your response.

The PCV valve goes in the oil filler cap at the front of the driver side valve cover. The fresh air supply goes in the oil filler cap at the rear of the passenger side valve cover.

Whether or not the charcoal (blue) cannister is connected will have no effect on your gas mileage. It is designed to keep the gas tank fuel vapors from directly entering the atmosphere.

Thanks Don. If I’m successful at locating the part to hook up the blue canister I’ll do it. If I can’t I guess I’ll just have a bigger carbon footprint.

This pic might help. It's on an aircleaner I have listed on ebay. Sorry, I don't want to sell the fittings separate.

I'm selling the complete aircleaner and lid for a 72 CJ/4V.

I found it on eBay thanks but I don’t need the whole unit, somewhere out there is the part I’m looking for. We’ll leave yours for somebody that needs it all. Thanks again

Thanks Don I stumbled on the whole piece with clip. Its a reproduction but as long as it works I’m good with reproduction parts found it on eBay for $7.37. Free shipping. It helps to know what the part is for and to know what it’s called. This site has educated me on this part and I’m very thankful to all who responded and went out of their way to help me.

Don c found a hose at cougarpartscatalog.com. Look under hose - air cleaner to carbon canister. It’s an aluminum reproduction they say you can paint it flat black to make it look original. NPR has the filters that go in the air filter canister. But I found the whole fitting with the clamp for $7.37 free shipping on eBay . I know NPR charges a minimum for shipping which will make just the filter at-least $15.00. Hope this helps

I forgot to add I didn’t get the hose yet because Wednesday the car goes in the shop to chase down an electrical problem . I gotta see what this job is going to set me back first. I’ve got to be careful how much I spend on what my wife calls my girlfriend. You know the saying happy wife happy life.
