1971 Grande' C code CJ medium brown w/ginger interior.
1971 Mach 1 C code 4spd pewter w/vermillion interior, factory a/c w/35K original miles.
Hey all. I’m in search for one of the four R code Grandes made. Anyone ever seen one or know of one?

They are on the same aisle as the hen's teeth. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I have never seen or heard of one. A post on the Concours Mustang forum MIGHT get a response. I wish you luck with your search. Chuck

I read that there are 5 on another post. If so 25% more odds of finding one.

That thing is so rare that there isn't a photo or an article on one of them in all of Google. Who know if one even exists anymore. It would be an incredible find if you find one.

I know of one but it’s still in the care of the original owners family and this I’d NFS.

There are five. I was mistaken. Yay! One omre is out there somewhere…maybe.

It would be great if you could document the one you know of. There is no information out there at all on an R-Code Grande. Maybe the owners will let you take some photos to post. It would be great to see one. I bet that few people have ever heard of an R-Code Grande and ever fewer have ever seen one.

Unfortunately the guy was very close mouthed about the car but did acknowledge its existence and told me it’s pristine original. He wouldn’t even show me the Marti.

While we're talking about rare Grande's. What about 71 Q, J and C and maybe L code Grandes. I saw a 429 4sp. Green and tan needing a restore about 11 years ago. Never seen a 71 Q code or L code of any year.

I’ve seen a Q code Grande. I have the Marti on it. I own one of 13 71 C code C6 Grandes. One was an SCJ so mine is one of 12.

I saw a brown/ginger C code Grande when I was in El Pase back in the 90s. Any chance that was your car?
No but I know that car. It is identical to mine but it has a white top where mine is brown.
I’ve got the Marti on that one. It was sold new in El Paso. That one belongs to a guy named Roman Ortiz. Where did you see it?

I've seen a 72 and 73 Q code, but not a 71. Not sure what year you were referencing. Is your C code one of those with loads of options? What about J codes?

If there were any 1971 Q codes they were late in the year production. Most were M code in 71. My C code is not loaded. I’ll post Marti.
Here is the Marti on the El Paso car as well as mine and a blue one in California. This is 25% of the C code Grandes made. Mine is the one sold new in Austin TX.

There were 25 J code Grandes. Only 15 C codes.

I’ve never seen a Q code 71. I’ve heard that they exist but have never seen proof. If they did it was very late in the production run.
There were J code Grandes as well as C codes. 13 C code C6 we’re built. One was an SCJ, 12 were CJ. There were no Grande CJ or SCJ 4 speeds.
There was one J code CJ 4 speed Grande and 20 J code C6 Grandes. There was one 4 speed SCJ and three C6 SCJ Grandes in J code.

Ford opened the order bank for the '71 351 CJ to the dealers in May '71. That is close to the end of that year's production run in the automotive world. Only 144 vehicles were produced with that engine. The '71 Q 351 was pretty much just a test run for Ford. All the manufacturers knew that stricter emissions and safety laws were on the horizon, and most of the '71 engines in their present configuration could not meet those new emissions requirements. This engine was just a sign of things to come.

The price difference over the 302 was $45.00 for the "H" 351C 2bl, $93.00 for the "M" 351C 4bl, and $194.00 for the "Q" 351 CJ. The new 351 CJ was available on all models except the Boss 351.

Hey Fast Cobra. Somehow I missed your earlier response. It's only taking me about 7 months to reply, lol! I remember seeing that Medium Brown Metallic 71 C code Grande with the white top in a parking lot in El Paso TX , probably a Blockbuster or a CD store, when I was in Anesthesiology Residency training in the early 1990s. I remember it like it was yesterday. Here was the car I was driving at that time. It was my first convertible, a 1973 Pearl Red restomod, with a built 351C 4V, T5 OD 5 speed, and a Lincoln Versailles disc brake rear end with 4.11 gears. I even added Nitrous Oxide injection to the car! I loved that car more than life itself. It got me through eight years of medical school and residency training. It was my daily driver, and it never let me down. I did almost all the work on the car except for the paint and interior. I probably put 100,000 miles on that car. I drove the car many times between El Paso and my parents home in Slidell, Louisiana. I even drove it from El Paso to Los Angeles, CA when I did my cardiovascular anesthesia rotation at Cedar Sinai. I know people may think the interior is over the top, but I loved it! I had a custom shop in Shreveport, LA do it while I was in medical school there. The seats were incredibly comfortable, and I added every option to the car, even power windows, a tilt wheel, and delay wipers. The car even had A/C! Another cool thing I added was a huge custom trailer hitch I had welded to the back subframe. I used it to move all my belongings from Shreveport to El Paso in an 8' x 12' U-Haul trailer doing 90MPH! It was no problem with the t5 overdrive 5 speed. The car was indestructible! Kevin.

A real beauty right there. The luggage rack was a bold statement my friend. I still hate you Kev....
Thanks PoFoMoCo! It was on the car when I got it. I think it was from a 71 Corvette. It looks a lot better than the bigger ones on the earlier Mustangs. Back in 2000, I sold that car and a 1973 Bright Red convertible with 92 original miles to a gentleman in Salt Lake City. Got $50,000 for the pair, and lost it all on some internet stocks a year later when the bubble busted.
