M & Q code engines used the multi-groove. 71 & 72 R-code engines used single groove.

Regardless, I recommend you put multi-groove valves in the trash unless it's a stock rebuild, and get a good set of one piece stainless valves with single grooves.

What would be a good set of single groove replacement valves that would work on the “m” code heads?

I should also let you know that this is a stock build with a very mild “rv” cam. Heads will use all stock components. No roller parts

I agree completely. I've had two multi groove valve engines that have dropped a valve when a keeper let go, one a 289 and the other in the Cleveland that was in my car when I bought it. Manley and Ferrea valves are good quality valves.

Agree with Don, Manley or Ferrea. I'm using Ferrea 5000 series in my new 4V engine, part # F5045 exhaust, F5037 intake. They sell for about $240/set of 16 currently. Best price I've found is through Barnett Performance.

Manley makes their Severe Duty and Race Master valves.

Competition Products (Howards Cams) has reasonably priced valves for the 4V heads

For the cam, I'd talk to the guys at Bullet or Schneider. Lots of issues with flat tappet lifter failures these days.

F5037 intake is for a BB chevy. Do you have the part number for the ford 351C intake valves?

The Ferrea F5037 are also used in BBC, 426/460. They are slightly longer than the 351C stock valve length. Your machinist can handle that no problem.
