For me the best part of this car is it is untouched since filming. Even though most original cars don't have this pedigree, it is such a shame when originality and patina are erased. The other one found in a junkyard is getting or has been restored against many professionals' advice. Our cars don't have to look perfect, just perfect mechanicals and minimal upkeep for preservation and enjoyment. I consider an original car with its flaws better condition than a restored car. The original gone in 60 second car still gets to tell its story with its dents.
Good point Greg. It will be interesting to see 558 when it is restored and "finished". I have some mixed emotions as it appears 558 may have been too far gone to leave it untouched. As far as your thoughts on 559 and its legacy as an untouched survivor here's a great read, its very long but the story is worth the effort. Enjoy!

This is an older article about 558 as found. Probably has too much patina to be left as-is...

Definitely a basket case beyond decent patina, but still tells a story as it is. Not a real happy story. Hard to evaluate completely from pictures. I've done nut and bolt restorations, but I have always preferred the untouched as found original color cars in any condition. I would probably just make it a roller or runner and some preservation. Might even be able to remove the white paint and only show a bad condition green paint job. Restoring it would likely mean replacing over 60% of it and would be 60% a different car. Restoring it might bring big bucks if you plan on selling it. Being this car has had a color change and its condition, you can't really fault anyone wanting to restore it.
