My Car
1971 Mustang Mach 1 351c FMX trans and 9 inch rear end
I was driving around in my Jeep this morning and a song I haven't heard in a long time came on the radio. This song was one of my favorites when I was in high school and I considered it a theme song of sorts for my 73 Mustang Mach 1 at the time. It made me wonder if anyone else had a theme song or favorite song that brought to mind their car. My song was Highway Star by Deep Purple, I really liked the song and I liked that it was about cars and girls (my two favorite things at the time and still are) and I really like the line where the car is going to break the speed of sound (Mach 1) and the big fat tires and everything.
Another favorite/theme song is Racing in the Street by Bruce Springsteen. I like it because I have a 69 Chevy with a 396, although no one has fuelie heads on their 396 (fuelies were small block heads) Bruce messed that up a bit, LOL. Also, I don't have a Hurst on the floor, my Camaro is an automatic.
Anyway, I am wondering if there are any songs that speak to you guys and your love of your cars.

“ I wish I was the full moon shining off your Cameros hood.”

We (71-73’rs) all have long front hoods and trust a bunch of us have current situations and or memories of the perfect fit laying it out there..

Hey there,

I always like this Topic on the Forum when it comes around now and then. (thanks tpj) The personal favorite choices are interesting to me as they tell the stories of different songs that relate to different time periods for the members in their lives.

In my case (being and old dude as i am now), go back a long way, when i first started to listen to popular music on the radio back in 1960.
I have kept listening to radio music all through the decades and up to the present, and would have to say that there have been many songs over the decades that i really have fallen in love with and so have become my favorite tunes. I have got these songs together and play them on a jump drive through my car stereo head when out driving around. Great stuff!

That said, there is one song that stands out to me ,that i have always loved, that has become somewhat of an kind of driving anthem of sorts to me. That song is called Mustang, and was a hit by an English group called The Shadows, going way back to around 1962 ish. Showing my age there for sure. So when i drop the top, and the weather's great, and i'm out cruising around, and Mustang comes up on the playlist, i crank it up and get a special feeling that's hard to put into words.

I even used that song as background theme music in one of my first walk around videos i shot back in 2016 of Goldie at a local scenic country picnic rest stop.
(sorry, shaky low res video there - was learning the ropes back then). I always felt that if you have a song that you truly love or resonate with, you tend to find you don't get tired of playing it over and over as the years roll on. The feedback so far shows the guys have chosen some great songs and artists as their favorites!(y)

Cheers,
Greg.:)

My favorites "back in the day" were, Highway Star: Deep Purple, Hot Rod Lincoln: Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen and Red Barchetta: Rush. One "recent" one I like, just for the beat, is Two Lane Blacktop by Rob Zombie.

Yep, definitely got to go with Highway star. The strangest song hit me immediately after my maiden voyage. I pulled in, it was getting dark & turned off the car. I had the radio on, however, the straight through mufflers through 2 1/2" pipes drowned everything out. As soon as I turned off the car, an old 70's tune came on loud and clear D.O.A. from Bloodrock & they never play that song on our commercial stations. I hope it's not a sign.

"We were flying low....and hit something in the air!"
I love that song! It's so....it's so...something?
