    OD trans options

When I built my beefer up 4r70w, I went with a manual VB, and just wired the OD/lockup together. Seems like I just used a regular poly transmission mount and didn't have any problems with it. Only thing I kind of regret about my build, is I put a flexplate shield on it, and now there is no way...

1/2 inch fuel sending units and lines

Well hell, I might as well put this project on hold, as I should buy a SS tank one day. I'd like to convert to E85 when there are enough around Austin. And having SS tank Will be the ticket for that. Thanks for those links guys. Both are helpful.

1/2 inch fuel sending units and lines

Has anyone converted their tank to a half inch fuel line? As usual, guys make 1/2" fuel sending units but only for the 65-70 cars. Would welding a separate 1/2" port or -8AN fitting onto a spot on the sending unit cover be acceptable? I would just have to find a way to put a sock filter on the...

Holley 870 Street Avg vs Demon 850

Btw, to the original poster, there is no flow comparison between a 870 Avenger and 850 Demon. Holley dry flows, where as Demon wet flows. Demons flow WAY more than holley in their relative CFM figures.

Holley 870 Street Avg vs Demon 850

That's interesting (and good catch) BenD. I have two demons (mighty demon 850 annular and 750 Race demon) and their quality is superior to the two holleys I have, including a custom Biggs holley and a Street Avenger. I don't know, as I've never seen or read about that, but how much difference...

    Inside Micrometer

You definitely need a dial bore gauge to .0001 to accurately measure your bearings. When I built my 408w, I compared the plastigauge to my mitutoyo and the accuracy of the plastigauge wasn't close. While you want the crank and bearings to be of similar temperatures when your measure, it isn't...

    what fuel should i run

That is 'pre-ignition' and if that were to truly happen, it only takes a few revolutions before severe damage is done. Detonation (or post-ignition) is actually a late burning of the fuel after the initial spark. The damage comes from a second flame front (after plug spark) severely heating up...

    Vacuum Secondary Spring

When I used a vacuum secondary for a little while, my hot little 408w needed a heavy spring to keep from bogging when it was opening. I know holley advertises it as a gas mileage gig, which I think is kinda stupid. You can start heavy, with black or brown, and keep moving up until you get a bog...

    still leaking

If you are building up a lot of crank case pressure ie blowby from worn rings or high RPMs, and it isn't vented by pvc, vacuum pump or breathers, it will greatly accelerate a seal problem.

Tried to start for first time FAILED

I sounds like timing is off. OR, do you have the wires in the correct order on the cap/plugs? Are you using a 289/302 firing order cam or a 351w firing order? Remember, distributor turns counter clockwise... Chaz

Ditto, I have 305/40/18's on rear, and I still have a little room to spare..

    Camshaft endplay

IIRC woody likes his endplay around .004, while in my Comp Cam specs it said for it to be .005-.01. I went with .004 with my end play. I also found it's best to check it with the cam OUT of the car, with the sprocket/cam plate/cam and using feeler gauges to give you correct end play. Chaz

Canton 9 qt RR hitting cross member

Well, for anyone who was reading, after notching some off the engine cross member, everything fits and seems to be lining up. Not sure if this is unique to me or not, but I haven't read it being a problem with other years. But, since we are the first year of having a cross member that's welded...
